Let's talk about Polynesian Resort

From the candid traveler photos, it looks like this place has had a major facelift recently. I stayed here in the late 80s and I thought it would be seriously outdated but the rooms look nice and fresh.

I read through several of the recent reviews but still had a few questions...

We are planning a trip in fall of 2008 when my son is barely 2. Staying at the Polynesian will be both a treat for me and my husband and nice and convenient to the Magic Kingdom. My son will probably have outgrown the use of a pack and play by then - but is that too young to sleep in a big bed?

Do most of the standard rooms feature two queen beds or is it possible to get one king?

Which building is best? Can you request a building when making a reservation?

Is paying for the MK view worth it?

Does the Polynesian have any bars/lounges where you can get a frosty lava flow? I loved those things in Hawaii.

Any other tips/suggestions would be greatly appreciated, especially anyone who has traveled with a toddler.

Thank you!

Yes, the Polynesian underwent a total refurb of all room buildings in 2006, so it%26#39;s almost like new. The main building was also refurbed.

I could not find information on the Poly having any King Bed rooms, only 2 queen. You must upgrage to a suite to get a king bed.

Yes, you can make a building request when you reserve a room, but there are no guarantees you%26#39;ll get that building.

Paying for a M.K. room view is a matter of taste. If you want this to see the fireworks, you could simply just walk down to the beach to see them at night.

The Poly does have two bars. Tambu Lounge is connected to %26#39;Ohana on the second floor of the Great Ceremonial House, and offers cocktails, juices, coffees, and appetizers. The Barefoot Pool Bar is next to the Nanea Volcano pool on the shores of the Seven Seas Lagoon. It is open daily 11:00 am - 7:00pm.

Hope this info helps some.

Stayed at the Poly in %26#39;04.While they say it%26#39;s tough to put a shine on a sneaker,We did%26#39;t get the feeling the place was dated. A new pool was added and when that gets crowded( which it does) a nice beach area and a smaller pool still await. O%26#39;Hana is a place to eat when you%26#39;re REALLY hungry and the entertainment keeps the kid%26#39;s attention. To be really picky they had not added a mini-frdge to the rooms as of %26#39;04. There is the best coffee bar in the lobby next to the Kona Cafe. As far as room views- you%26#39;re paying top dollar already why not go the whole distance? We had a room with a view of the lagoon, the other hotels, and the M.K. in the distance. Really nice. I would ask for a room away from the the new pool area closer to the Ferry landing. (near sunset point)
