Need suggestions for 20-somethings – first time to Tampa

I will be traveling with a group of 20-somethings to Tampa next week for 6 days, it will be our first time in Tampa. Most of our group will be preparing for and participating in a paintball tournament the time we are out there, so my roommate and I will be on our own the majority of the time. We are planning to go to Clearwater Beach one day and to Busch Gardens another but aside from that we don’t really have anything planned. What would you suggest as far as other activities go? Any and all suggestions are appreciated. Also, I’ve heard about Ybor city for nightlife, which are the “trendy” clubs in that area? Are there any gay clubs in that area or does Tampa have a gay section of town? Are clubs busy every night or just on Friday and Saturday nights? We will be there Wednesday through Monday. Thanks again!

Need suggestions for 20-somethings %26ndash; first time to Tampa

Hello,

I haven%26#39;t been to Ybor in a few years but I%26#39;m pretty sure that it%26#39;s most busy on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. I think Thursday night is college night for most of the clubs. If you like techno music then the Ampitheather is the place to go. It has a rotating dance floor and they play great techno on Saturday nights.

here are some websites you can check out

as far as activities go... it depends on what you are interested in.

There are great malls in the area, Westshore Mall, International mall

since you are going to Busch Gardens, you may want to check out Adventure Island. It%26#39;s a water park that is right next door.

Also, check out Channelside one night as well.

Ybor City has tons of different bars/ clubs to choose from. Just stroll down 7th Ave. and you%26#39;ll see most of them. I don%26#39;t go down there much.

There are also good bars in Soho area - Whiskey Park on Howard Ave. and Hyde Park Cafe on Platt - where the girl from American Idol was just arrested :) - are a few.

I don%26#39;t know that there is necessarily a ';gay section'; of Tampa. I did a search on google and found this site:

www.gaytampa.com/gaytampa/barslounges.html

It lists several gay bars. That being said, I have seen my hair stylist who is gay at ';straight'; bars/clubs, so I don%26#39;t think you%26#39;d be uncomfortable at any popular spot.

As for other things to do during the day, Ybor is nice to stroll during the daytime, Old Hyde Park Village is a nice outdoor shopping area, International Plaza and Westshore Plaza are both great malls and are quite close to each other. There%26#39;s a Dali museum in St. Pete if that interests you, Museum of Science and Industry in Tampa.

You can search www.tbo.com to see if there are any events going on when you are here.

';Trendy Clubs'; in Ybor include Amphitheater, Prana, Code, there are many others along 7th Avenue.

';Trendy Clubs'; in Hyde Park/SOHO area include Mangroves, Hyde Park Cafe, Whiskey Park SOHO. There are also numerous bars/restaurants along Howard Avenue from Kennedy Blvd to Bayshore Blvd.

Other ';Trendy Clubs'; include Banana Joe%26#39;s/Velvet Room at Channelside, Jackson%26#39;s on Harbour Island downtown, Fly Bar on Franklin downtown.

Gay areas in Tampa include Hyde Park/SOHO area of south tampa, although it is a mixed crowd. In Ybor, those kind of clubs are Wranglers, One Love, G-Bar, and Flirt. The Castle draws a mixed crowd. City Side on Henderson Blvd in South Tampa is very popular, as is Chambers downtown.

In St. Petersburg across the bay, there are predominent gay areas, such as Grand Central District(Central Ave just west fo Tropicana Field 11th to 34th Street.), Kenwood, and Gulfport.

Thank you all for your responses!

I don%26#39;t know if your coming now but you might want to check out a nightclub called CHAMBERS, it%26#39;s the place to be on Friday nights!!
