Those of you who will be staying around A1A and Sunrise Blvd ( Doubletree/Gallery One or Holiday Inn Oceanfront)
Might want to sign on to the mailing list for Cafe Bluefish , a ';Floribbean'; bar and grill with good casual food and nice happy hour specials. The coupon for 15% off they sent out today is good through 3/31, so they last a pretty long time-also lists any parties and events they may be having. They posted a ';new'; menu- but I didn%26#39;t notice the difference, just I checked for my favorites, which are still there ( fish sandwich and coconut shrimp) Here%26#39;s a link to the sign up screen:

I sent an e mail to them today asking for opening times and also food serving times. Not had a reply as yet. We arrive in FL late at night 11.30pm I think (Continental keep e mailing us with changes to the flight times) and I wondered if the Bluefish would be still be open by the time we get to the Doubletree which I would imagine would be around 12.30. If we haven%26#39;t managed to get anything to eat in New York before our flight out of Newark we will be starving by the time we hit FL (I am not buying one of those yucky food boxes on the plane). There%26#39;s always Primantis I suppose but do they sell beer? I didn%26#39;t notice last time I was in FL because we only went in for breakfast. I will sign on for the mailing list. Thanks for the tip.

Sue:
I%26#39;m not sure that Primanti%26#39;s sells beer but I am guessing that they do. If you do take out you could stop and 7-11 to pick up some. There is a 7-11 between your hotel and Primanti%26#39;s. It%26#39;s just over the bridge from the Doubletree down the first block on the right. They are open 24 hours. They will also have ice and probably a styrofoam cooler too. I%26#39;m assuming you know that beer is not sold after midnight on Saturday night until noon on Sunday.
If you are too tired to go out for dinner you may want to consider ordering in. Nick%26#39;s Italian Restaurant has very recently reopened. They have very good soup and bread. They are open until 4am. If you want I can call them to make sure they will deliver after midnight.

Oh , but that would be the absolutely perfect opportunity for you to try a real Lauderdale institution- Lester%26#39;s Diner , which is open 24 hrs and has beer and wine ( not sure about mixed drinks) on your way from the airport. It has been there forever- just north of the airport on State Rd. 84- which is SW 24 ST. - this is the road that eventually merges onto I-595. They have a vast menu and it%26#39;s your basic truck stop kind of place- but I%26#39;d take the opportunity to say you%26#39;ve been there. If you are going north on US 1 , you turn west at SW 24th at the light. Lesters will be over the railroad tracks on your left. It has been a traditional place to rehab after a night of partying for many years.

I%26#39;m also guessing that Cafe Bluefish would be open till at least 1- but I%26#39;ll check locally and see.
An additional possibility that you had mentioned wanting to try last trip is the Southport Raw Bar- also someplace you could easily drive by coming from the Airport- US 1 north to SE 17th St ( Comfort Inn on corner). East on 17th to traffi light at Cordova Rd ar Embassy Suites. Left ( north) on Cordova, southport is on the right. Thery actulaly have a late night happy hour from Sat- Thursday nights that starts at 11pm. Heer%26#39;s the website where you can also download a coupon and study the menu:
http://www.southportrawbar.com/
And then you can head east on 17th and go north up the beach till you get to Sunrise Blvd.
All good suggestions, but I can confirm that I recently enjoyed a beer at Primanti%26#39;s on the beach -- they probably sell beer until about 1 or 2 AM (they have to stop at 2, but may pull the plug earlier).
Thanks for everyones suggestions. I think we will have to eat in New York - probably at the airport and just look for somewhere to have a nightcap when we hit the Doubletree. The suggestions of Lesters and the Southport Raw Bar are great but we would both be wanting a drink (adult type) and one of us has got to drive so perhaps not a good idea to start our vacation in a Florida jail. If anyone knows what time the nearby bars close I would be greatful. From memory there was the Parrot, Bluefish, Bikini and McSorleys. However if anyone has any other ideas within walking distance of the Doubletree which are open late please let me know:-)
I don%26#39;t want to waste a night of my stay in Fort Lauderdale by going to bed early LOL.
Ther%26#39;s a bar right in the Doubletree lobby and also Blue Martini over in the Galleria which stays open late-actually I%26#39;ll bet all those bars you mention stay open til at least 1 am - probably later- but I don%26#39;t keep those hours anymore- if I see a place that lists the hours in my travels I%26#39;ll let you know, but the beach is party area- I%26#39;m betting the Parrot is open for sure!
Thanks Lulu
The bar in the Doubletree closes at 11pm and the Blue Martini 3am. The Blue Martini%26#39;s web site makes it look very upscale perhaps too much so for two shabby Brits who have just flown in after 4 nights in New York City LOL. I think we will drive past the old favourites on our way to the Doubletree and see what is open. Then do the fastest check in known on record, throw the luggage in the room and run down Sunrise hopefully to the Parrot. If that fails we%26#39;ll have to have a quick smarten up and try the Blue Martini :-))
Strange that the Bluefish, Parrot and McSorley%26#39;s don%26#39;t post their opening times on their web sites but I suppose they don%26#39;t want to be held to those times if trade is slow.
I received a very nice e mail from the Bluefish in response to my question about food service time details as follows in case anyone is interested.
Hours: Monday to Thursday kitchen stays open till 11:00pm
Friday - Sunday the kitchen stays open till midnight.
