8 days in siesta keys - must see ?

Hello

Me and my wife are staying in siesta keys for 8 days in may. What should we absolutly not miss ??

8 days in siesta keys - must see ?

There are parks, museums, shopping and the best beaches.

For shopping you can go to St. Armands Circle on Lido Key.

There is the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art at the north end of town.

There is Myakka State Park east of town.

Marie Selby Botanical Gardens is close to the downtown.

I would also consider a sunset cruise from Marina Jacks and having dinner in some wonderful restaurants.

You can also rent kayaks and paddle around Sarasota Bay or enjoy the sugar sand Crescent Beach. There are sailboat rides and a list of other things.

Your time here will go quickly.

Hi Fossdal:

You are going to have a blast! The weather in May is always fantastic too.

Here is what we like to do when the kids are along!

Hit the Beach - Siesta, Crescent or Turtle.

Eat out - We love to go casual on vacation. Phillipi Creek, Captain Curts (go late then stay for karaoke- it is fun!) SKOB, Salty Dog, Tommy Bahama%26#39;s at St. Amands (dressy casual) Beach Club on Anna Maria Island (right ON the beach), Pop%26#39;s Sunset Grill near the south bridge just off of Casey Key (go in flip flops) relaxing!

See the sights - Myakka State Park for the gator cruise (gotta do it once), rent a small boat at CB%26#39;s next to the Stickney point bridge and cruise the intracoastal one day. Go all the way down past Nokomis - you will see Dolphins along the way, rent Kayaks and paddle around the south end, go shelling on the south end....msot of all RELAX. I never have enough time to relax on SK!

Check out Sarasota, St. Armands and Longboat Key too!

Have a great trip!

On Sunday night, you must go to the Drum Circle. It happens about an hour before sunset at the Siesta Key Public Beach. Bring your own drum or just show up and dance, or just show up and watch others have fun. I was the hero of our family vacation for having learned of this event.

I will second what others have said about the Myakka River airboat tour. Our guide with his alligator tooth necklace and binoculars was just wonderful. He KNEW the birds and alligators and all their little habits like a family friend. The balance of science and funny little stories made this a really enjoyable outing.

Likewise the docents stationed throughout Mote Marine aquarium were fantastic. It%26#39;s not a very big place but still worth the visit.

The Ringling Circus Museum was my favorite. The scale model is mind-boggling as you imagine what it must have taken to run the real thing.

Thanx for the good advice :o)

About small boat renting, do you have to have a license ??

If you approach the Key from Tamiami Trail (US 41) when you come over the drawbridge on the left you will see CB%26#39;s Marina and rentals, they will give you all the info you need...and if you want a bigger boat to go on the Gulf or something you can go to Marina Jack%26#39;s, huge marina in downtown Sarasota...great place to have lunch or dinner outside with super views of Sarasota Bay...The Village in SK is great...there%26#39;s a little bit of everything for everybody...Happy hour at the Daquiri Deck can%26#39;t be beat..2 for 1...I leave the 15th for 10 days, my 15th year of being in SK in March...It%26#39;s the only thing that gets me through NW Ohio%26#39;s winters...

No license necessary for renting the small boat.
