Thanksgiving plans - need help!

My siblings are planning a 40th anniversary party for our parents in November of 2007. My husband and children visit the Gulf Shores, AL area every summer, but have never been to SGI. We will have approx. 30 people attending to celebrate with our parents. What are the conditions like in November? Are the beaches very crowded? Will we be able to enjoy the outdoor activities like we do at Gulf Shores? Will fishing boats be operational at that time of the year? We are a little nervous about spending that amount of money (Oklahoma to Florida, some coming as far as Washington state) and then not having activities to enjoy during that time of the year. Any information you can supply would be great! Thanks!

St. George is definately no Gulf Shores, we are alot more laid back. I like to think of SGI as my little getaway, where I like to tout atleast for me, that there really is nothing to do, which is what I love so much about being there. We don%26#39;t have all the glitz and glamour, but the island does have some of the most unique locals anywhere, atleast to me that is.

The conditions in November are about like they are now in March, they are quite pleasant. The average temps are 72/73 highs, and 52/53 for lows. Remember that hurricane season does run through the end of November, but hopefully we be blessed again this year with no hurricanes. We all took a beating in 2005 with alot of hurricanes, and even arriving later than usual in the year.

The Beaches are NEVER crowded on SGI, that is it%26#39;s beauty. Most people can%26#39;t imagine it, but it is true, and that is what makes this area so special. You should not have any problems enjoying the outdoors stuff to do like in Gulf Shores, but look at SGI as a place to get together with family and really enjoy family and individual time with nature and each other. SGI is a place like no other that I have ever seen or been to, all in one package.

If you are worried about it, come down for a quick weekend visit to see it. If you are looking for alot of activities for people to do and places for people to go shopping and whatnot, then SGI is not the place to go. The island is touted as a place for family to come and enjoy each other and nature, and be kinda like the old days, not in todays rush-rush world.

Just read some of the other posts on the island, it can be a great place to have a different kind of wedding anniversary, and it%26#39;s a great place to get to know %26amp; visit with each other alot.

It%26#39;s just a special kinda place, atleast to me.

I hope that this helps.

OKScottRanch,

For even more information about St. George, just click on sgibeach%26#39;s name. She has written profusely, providing a wealth of valuable and accurate info about St. George.

If your group is looking for shopping malls, amusement parks, and night life go ahead and cross St. George off your list. But if you are looking for uncrowded beaches, peace and quite and family time, you could not do any better.

But you aren%26#39;t completely isolated either. There are some stores and restaurants on the island and more in Appalachicola, just across the bridge.
