Going to rent a satnav in the UK - be careful !!

Just a note of caution for anyone thinking of renting a satnav unit in the UK for a trip to the US. The company we used firstly supplied the unit incomplete to the wrong person at the wrong address; by chance we were able to get hold of it in time. On our return they claimed we had damaged the windscreen mount (which we had not used, let alone damaged), accused us in writing of deliberately trying to deceive them by concealing the damage, and debited us 拢50 for a unit that retails at less than 拢20. If you do want a satnav unit in Orlando you can almost certainly pick one up once you get to the US. If you do decide to rent one in the UK, BE CAREFUL !!

Thanks for the tip. We own a satnav and had been looking for map of orlando, but you have to purchase the whole of america and it cost about 拢100. We have already booked our car, so we are hoping to rent a satnav when we pickup the car?

I was over about 8 months ago and rented with Dollar

They have sat nav and are really keen for you to buy it

it wasnt that exspensive and if you plan to travel about a bit worth the extra

I think it was about 18 dollars per day

Hi Franki8 your best bet is to check with whichever company you%26#39;re hiring the car from; I think most have satnav systems available locally, though. We were certainly offered one when we arrived by Budget - I wish we%26#39;d rented it from them now - they would have charged us about $10 a day.

I too was thinking on hiring the satnav from the hire company but considering how chaeap they are think we may buy one, including the US maps and then we can use it on future visits...

Any idea of best place to buy one out there?

We are going next year, already have a tom tom for use in the UK. Checked on tom toms website and can get a florida download for 拢40 so am going to do that. Tom toms have come down in price and you can increase the memory by buying a normal sd card

we rented one from dollar for $10 a day and they gave us a free upgrade to a convertable which was brill

its worth paying for your own maps, if you are going to pay 拢60 - 拢70 to hire one, you might as well buy the maps at least you can use them on future visits.
