I will be staying in Fort Lauderdale near the end of May with my two boys ages 19 and 22. My one son has a friend who lives in Hollywood. I recently read that there is a lot of crime in Hollywood and I%26#39;m worried about them being in that area at night.

Any thoughts as to how safe the area is?

Ft Lauderdale, Hollywood, Miami and all of SE %26amp; SW Florida are heavily populated, and some areas are not that safe for tourists or even locals.

I don%26#39;t think Hollywood is any more crime ridden than most other towns. If you check here, you will see Hollywood as safer than Fort Lauderdale.

Average prices for the housing in most areas of both towns isn%26#39;t exactly cheap...and although prices have dropped, you will not find many houses (espically near the beach) for less than $500,000, and thats for a 3 bed 2 bath less than 2000 sg ft...sometimes 1920s house...

But in some areas, they are actively doing what used to be called ';urban renewal';....carried on heavily in Palm Beach, Broward, Dade, Collier and Lee counties.
