Tex Mex in Miami Beach!

Hi!

I am a Texan that has been living in Miami Beach for the last year and a half. I am having some serious cravings for good Tex Mex. My favorite dish is Cheese Chile Rellenos. I also would really love some great Guacamole.

In Texas, for those who know, my favorite Tex mex restaurants were:

Chuy%26#39;s, Trudy%26#39;s, Pappasitos and Magnolia Cafe%26#39;s style of Aus Mex.

Do restaurants of this caliber exist here? Will I be disappointed?

I also love Chipotle, is there a good burrito place for vegetarian%26#39;s with the same great value?

Thank you!

Peace

Mexican food is our regular ';GoTo';...

The Denver-based Mex chain called Chipotle is opening on Biscayne Blvd at about 150th Street near that GIANT new wine supermarket (west side of the street). I happened to pass by on my way to the equally new Cheen-Huaye Yucatan style Mexi place at 154th (yum!) More Chipotles will follow. Meantime - do check out Cheen-Huaye - they do a weekend Mexi breakfast too!

If you travel to NMiami much, we often hit Paquito%26#39;s on Biscayne (in an east side shopping plaza just south of 163rd St. next to a large Marine Supply store). The place is a little over the top ';MexiMariachi'; in style but the food is consistently good. Fresh hot chips, chunky style fresh made salsa, wonderful tortilla soup and - YES - delicious Chiles Rellenos served as singles (a la carte) or as a full platter with rice and beans and the works. You can have then veggie style or stuffed with meat or chicken. Friday night is a super crowded happy hour scene...

Other near by Mexi spots include Taqueria El Mexicano on Calle Ocho, Taco Max at semi-sketchy 79/Biscayne, the grubby little taco factory southwest of the Lincoln Road movies (new owner, new name) for a quick fix before the flicks... also Lime on Alton (we call it ';Line'; - meh...)

Aguacate%26#39;s on first and Biscayne rolls your burrito to order if you%26#39;re ever Downtown. If you%26#39;re up at the county line, try Chapultepec on Hallandale Beach Blvd a few blocks west of Dixie Hwy on the north side of the street - simply great mole!

Closer to you? Oddly enough, I was with a friend on Lincoln Rd and we met his friends at Nexxt on the Euclid circle (I know I know - crowds crowds crowds) but a few folks ordered the Mexi style breakfast burrito and the quesadilla (general TexMex style entrees) and LOVED them. We often get the giant breakfast burrito at Big Pink on 2/Collins and it turns out the egg, avocado cheese etc burrito at Nexxt also got really favorable reviews...

Who knew!?

I heard Cheen-Huaye was very good. Can%26#39;t wait to try it. I think the quality at paquito%26#39;s has declined over the last 5 years.

I%26#39;m not familiar with the texas restaurants you mentioned, but try: San Loco Taqueria on 15th St. between Washington and Collins, El Rancho grande, right off Lincoln rd. at Pennsylvania Ave, Senor Frog%26#39;s on Collins in the 500 block and Oh! Mexico, on the corner of Washington and Espanola Way.

We%26#39;ve had good meals at them all.
