I stayed on Sanibel Island a few months ago. I undersstand the beaches currently look pretty bad. How fare is Lee Island from Sanibel? How are the beach on Lee Island currently. I was looking for a long weekend getaway to go shelling.
Lee IslandI think that the beaches of Lee County (Ft. Myers Beach, Sanibel, Captiva) are refered to collectively as Lee Island. I don%26#39;t think there is a separate island by that name.

Love Florida is correct-there is no Lee Island. I think you are probably referring to Ft. Myers Beach which is only about a 15-20 minute drive from Sanibel. I haven%26#39;t heard that Sanibel was in bad condition- my family lives there- but Ft. Myers Beach would be a good option if you want something different. It has a lot more going on than Sanibel and tons more choices for lodging and dining. (Let me know if you want more specifics on lodging). The shelling is probably not as good- just because it is more populated- but we%26#39;ve still always had good luck. My kids brought home many good finds when we were down there in November. Personally- Ft. Myers Beach is my favorite beach in all of Florida- yes, I%26#39;ve been to many of them. I%26#39;m sure I%26#39;m biased though since I grew up there:)
