Hi,
I%26#39;m going to Florida for several nights and I would like to spend two nights in Miami. I have never been to Florida and I don%26#39;t know the difference between Miami and Miami Beach. What is to see at each location? Where is the best place to stay, relative to value and location? Are the beaches good? And which ones? What must be seen before leaving Miami or Miami Beach?
Thanks!
Miami or Miami Beach?

Zoinks! Try this - Miami is to San Francisco what Miami Beach is to Sausilito. Nah! Miami is a weekday working city (business %26amp; financial district) and Miami Beach is a resort community...
Choose a hotel on Miami Beach on the ocean from 1st to 18th Streets. There are corporate choices like Marriott and Doubletree and Lowe%26#39;s and there are boutique hotels like Raleigh, Delano and Victor. There are plush places like Regent and Ritz-Carlton too. Best deco property on Ocean Drive is the Park Central...
The beaches run the length of the city of Miami Beach for miles (check the satellite hybrid on google to see). Enter zip 33139.
In 2 nights you can dine at a 5 star gourmet restaurant or a local Cuban cantina and feel like you got a taste of Miami. You can tan, swim in a WARM ocean (seriously bath temps in the summertime unlike the Pacific) and you can sightsee. We have a regstered historic Art Deco district, a wonderful museum (Wolfsonian), good shopping (Barneys to bikinis) and an underwater State Park you ';must see'; if you can swim...
SNORKELING
The living, shallow-water coral reefs of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary can be viewed during a 2 and a half-hour snorkeling tour (sails at 9, noon and 3pm). Rent a car for the day, take 395 west to SR836 west to SR 826 South to SR 874 South to the turnpike south to the end of the peninsula of Florida - you enter the little string of islands to the Keys and drive south on US-1 to Mile Marker 102.5 and Pennekamp Park (takes about an hour and a half depending upon traffic):

Miami or Miami Beach?
Stay on the beach, after all you are in Florida you will want to be at the beach, it is only 15 minutes across the causeway into Miami. Lots of great shopping, take a drive up to Sawgrass Mills if you like outlet Malls. The Keys are great if you decide to drive about 1 1/2 hours south. Advisor Girl has great advice and if you research back thru the Miami Beach forum you will find lots of good info.
