What's the must do thing/s for a day's visit?

I guess this or similar question has been asked a hundred times, but I%26#39;m new on this forum. We%26#39;ll be staying mainly in Orlando in May and have planned to visit Daytona Beach on Saturday May 19th.

What are the must see things?

I do not know the area at all so even obvious suggestions are welcome (except the beach, I kinda guessed about that one).

What's the must do thing/s for a day's visit?

Daytona USA, Ponce Inlet Lighthouse, the boardwalk area and waterpark, several museums, Volusia Mall.

What's the must do thing/s for a day's visit?

I agree, Daytona USA and shops in International Speedway Bvld. (ISB) are great for a few hours. Then head east on ISB and right onto the beach. Oceanwalk (boardwalk area, shops, water park) will be in that area (take a left - north onto A1A before getting onto the beach). Then A1A south takes you to Ponce Inlet, which has beautiful, untouched beaches with sand dunes, a nice jetty to walk out onto the ocean on and the lighthouse attractions are down there too. A great, reasonable place to eat on your way to Ponce is Racing%26#39;s North Turn (on A1A right on the ocean) good seafood and laid back atmosphere - beats the touristy places up by Oceanwalk and ISB.

If you are only coming to Daytona for the day - drive your car right onto the bach - take out your beach chairs - put them near the water - sit down and just enjoy the beach....all day. That in itself is just worth it. Maybe for lunch hit one of the places that are located by the beach, you could also be right near the pier to enjoy that. Then maybe afterwards you could enjoy dinner at any of the restaurants and just hit a few shops. If I were just coming for a day - I would enjoy the beach the whole day. If that is not your cup of tea - then I would hit Ponce Inlet Lighthouse, the turtle rescue shelter (near the lighthouse), if you are visiting on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday - and like Flea Markets - I would hit the Flea Market. There is also the Sugar Mill Ruins that people tend to forget about. It%26#39;s the historical sugar mill ruins that was later tried to turn into an amusement park so there have these huge cement dinosaurs throughout the gardens...just a nice historical place that people tend to forget about. Have a great trip.

Thanks for the replies.

Stubbytoes, can you park your car on the beach and leave it there while you go to the shops or grab a spot of lunch? I knew you ould drive on the beach but was thinking you weren%26#39;t allowed to stop.

YES.you can park your car on the each. people park there for the whole day. have fun in daytona it is the BEST....

You have to watch for high tide when parking on the beach. Beach patrol does a good job announcing the tide is coming in to avoid people getting stranded for a few hours! Just be aware of this. Have a great time!
