Going to Orlando in JUNE ..does anyone know if you can rent walkie talkies for the theme parks or is it better to buy them? There will be 5 adults. And thaks one and all for all the brill tips.

They are pretty mush useless.....
If you get the cheap ones with only a few channels their will be 100s of people all taking at the same time on the channels, even if you get the muti-band ones (Last ones I saw was like 8 bands with 10 channels each) your still going to be fighting to hear each other.
Its not just the other guests you have to worry about fighting with to get on the channel they are big with contractors, and other businesses. They say the range is up to 3 miles but its alot more depending on the terain, my kids have cheap ones that say the range is only 1 mile and we are able to pick up the workers at the ski resort 12 miles away from us.

You can buy them locally in Orlando very cheaply in places like Wallmart or K-Mart. The only downside is everybody else uses them and you may not be able to make contact if other users are nearer and talking over your transmissions. However it is a great way to keep in touch. The range is about 2 miles but this reduces if buildings or trees block the signal.
An alternative would be to buy them in Dublin which may use different frequencies than in USA and then you would not have the transmission problems.
