Cycling from Captival to Sanibel

Hi there,

Was wondering if anyone could give any advice on whether it is possible (and safe) to cycle between Sanibel and Captiva as we are staying in the SSR in May but I have just read that there are no bike trails on Captiva??!!

Any advice on distances etc. much appreciated.

It%26#39;s not that far and folks do it, but I would recommend against it, especially if kids are involved. You must ride on the road which is very narrow with several sharp turns - especially if 2 trucks are on it - and even though the speed limit is really low, people speed and try to pass. If you do decide to do it, be sure you%26#39;re NOT on Captiva Drive when the staff at SSR enter and leave. That is a dangerous time. It%26#39;s only about 3-4 miles from the entrance of SSR to Blind Pass. Sanibel then has bike paths that go all the way to the Lighthouse and back. It%26#39;s about 12-15 miles from Blind Pass to the Lighthouse depending on the route you ride. You can drive down to Billy%26#39;s or Finnimore%26#39;s on Sanibel, park in the lot and then ride from there. Just be warned, the path from Blind Pass to Tarpon Bay is very sunny, so BRING WATER and wear sunscreen.
