Hi zowie... I%26#39;d first point you towards the insider pages here at TripAdvisor. There%26#39;s one that has collected a lot of links about Key West and put them into catagories. There is a %26#39;family activities%26#39; area. Beyond that, You%26#39;ll receive a lot of other opinions here!

My son would have LOVED if our two attempts at snorkeling off shore would have worked out. Instead, the day we went to the reef he got stung and the day we had planned to go to this off-island it was totally horrible weather. :(

Despite the disappointment, it was GREAT plan that just went array. We chartered a private sail boat (which was actually about the same for a half day with five of us as it was to go out on one of the bigger charters). We were going as a family, but I think if you want to hang with the guys (or girls for that matter), it was fun to sail and you could help or not help as you desired. Worked great.

The other thing is at least once you have to go to Mallory Square for Sunset celebration.

Girls: Go to Kino Sandals for serious summer shoe shopping. My son wasn%26#39;t fond of the boys%26#39; sandals. And that%26#39;s about all the shopping he cared to do, besides read all the completely inappropriate t-shirts. Completely within the mindset of a 16-17 year old. It%26#39;s when you see a 40 year old wearing it that i worry. :)

And both my son and husband really wanted to go deep sea fishing, but it just never worked out. We%26#39;ll do it next time I am sure.

Oh.. and we rented a house in Truman%26#39;s Annex. We loved it. It was really safe, close to the one larger beach (although it%26#39;s like a $2 charge a day - save your receipt), and provided a nice calm near all the storm of Duval. If you can get a view of the water, all the better. We rented a house, but there are TONS of condos, they all have pools, etc. Having access to at least breakfast and a fridge would go a long way on saving your food bill with 4 teenagers too!

Do you have firm dates and an approximate budget for a place to stay? ($%26#39;s per night) And how many rooms or beds will you need?

The best thing is Key West is going out to the reef to snorkel for either a morning or and afternoon or even a full day, and there is also an afternoon snorkel / sunset sail combo. It depends on your budget and the amount of time you have.

Then there are the various happy hours at the bars at the Key West Bight where you can have drinks (hard / soft) and try combinations of seafood, things you may not have had before.

And there are any number of museums to go to; the Wreckers, Mel Fishers. There is the Aquarium just off the Mallory Docks. The Butterfly Conservatory at the south end of Duval. The Lighthouse and Hemingway%26#39;s House about half way south on Whitehead.

And you can rent bikes and easily ride to the south sode of the island to Higgs and Smathers Beaches, and go out onto the White Street Pier.

etc.

Four 17-year-olds? Plus two brave and energetic 50-ish folks? ;-) How many people in all? Are the 17-year-olds male, female, or some of each? Where you might stay depends greatly on what sort of sleeping accommodations you%26#39;ll require.

Also, how long do you plan to be in KW, and on which days of the week? That, too, will determine which lodgings will be available to you. About how much are you planning to spend for your accommodations?

Will you be flying directly into Key West, or driving down from Miami? If you%26#39;re driving, you may want to split your time bewteen Key West and other locations-- some snorkling and fishing trips are more readily available and more economical up the Keys a bit.

Is anyone in your group an experienced boater? Our best times out on the water in the Keys have been on boats we%26#39;ve rented and taken our on our own. That was up in the Key Largo - Islamorada area-- not sure we%26#39;d attempt it off Key West.

We%26#39;ve done Keys with teens repeatedly, but need to know more about your particular situation, likes, dislikes, etc. before suggesting lodgings or activities.

Make sure you take them fishing!!! Book a charter and go!
