Car hire

Does anyone know...is it cheaper to upgrade to a SUV in the uk before visiting or is it better to wait until you get to Orlando ?

Thanks

Susan

Car hire

Susan:

I don%26#39;t know how accurate this information may be, but there was a discussion on the board recently about car rental agencies in Florida offering renters free upgrades to SUV%26#39;s when they check in because it is the smaller, more fuel efficient models that are in high demand at the present time.

I realize that fuel prices in the USA are modest compared to where you live, but they are considered to be quite high here at the present time. That may be contributing to this unusual phenomenon.

Car hire

Hi Spa,

Just got back today.

Dont know if you%26#39;re going for 1 or 2 weeks but we did 2 weeks and booked our car for 2 x1 week slots with cheapest economy door.

At Sanford - free upgrade to 4 dr compact

2nd week at Kissimmee drop/collection, only 3 SUV%26#39;s to choose from. So had a free upgrade to SUV for the second week.

The smaller collection points ive noticed have bigger cars.

Pot luck maybe, more consumption maybe, more fun and space - yes!

100% cheaper to do it here. You will get stiffed for insurance and other non sense.

Yes take the advice of Axel and Gordon don%26#39;t wait till you get to Orlando. It%26#39;s far cheaper to book here in the UK. Most companies here also include all the insurance you need. If you wait you%26#39;ll pay through the nose for insurance, taxes, airport fees etc.

Also I read the report that GrandmaMac mentioned. I think it was NickDolphins report. The US citizen prefer smaller cars leaving the gas guzzlers to us Brits.

I can give you some names of the hire companies if you wish.

If you leave it till your in the US the hire cost may be less . But they will clobber you with insurance and other costs which will be expensive. And they know that one your there you don%26#39;t have an option but to take what they offer. They know that any figure they put on the bill you will pay. you may grumble but that the least of their worries
