Discovery Cruise Line-wonderful

Just back from a 3 night at the Sheraton at Our Lucaya. First let me start by stating how wonderful the Discovery Cruise line was. It exceeded our expecatations. They had activities for the kids. The breakfast buffet %26amp; lunch buffet were good, but the upgrade dinner ($21) was excellent, and so was the service. I also won a return 1 day trip (Valued at over $200) , by filling out the comment card (what a nice birthday gift), not sure if I can use it ,tough since its back to school for me, but still it was a very nice surprise and a nice way to end our trip.

My family and I were there from August 31-September 3 to celebrate my 40th Birthday.

The resort itself is beautiful and in a great area. Alot of the restaurants were closed due to slow season. We did eat at Zobras and enjoyed it. We never ate at the resort since the prices were very high.Took a 3 hour snorkeling cruise which was wonderful, and hung out in Count Bassie Square.

My famuily enjoyed this vacation better than our trip to Nassau.

We ( 2 adults and two kids) are also considering taking the Discvoery crusie to the Bahamas and then staying at the Viva Fortuna for a week or so. We are considering this resort since it is all inclusive.

My questions:

1. Do you have to book direct with the web site or are there other ways?

2. Is it possible to pay less $ for the cruise then what the web site lists (discount coupons etc.)?

3. How far ahead should this be booked in advance?

4. Would you reccommend paying extra and getting a stateroom.

5. Once in the Bahamas, are transfers to/from the hotel also included?

Thank you

Suzy V.

We booked with Skyauction and paid alot less than booking directly with Discovery Cruise. We didn%26#39;t see the need for a stateroom. Transfers were not included, however, they were cheap and only charged $5 a person directly at the airport to be transferred via taxi.

Thank you so much for the info. Canyou confirm that this is what it would cost us for a 8 night stay):

2 adults, 2 kids (between 6 and 12)

cost of auction (cruise for 2 adults plus two nights at the Sheraton)

$540 ( 6 additional nights at $45 per person per night, kids under 12 free)

$49 kids cruise (between 6-12) for kid 1

$49 kids cruise (between 6-12) for kid 2

$80 ($20 each for a weekend departure)

$40 ($10 each for one of the taxes)

$400 ($99 each for their main taxes, I didn%26#39;t know if kids had to pay or not)

total = $1158 plus cost of the auction

One more quick question, what does this auction usually sell for??? I would have no idea how much to bid.

Thank you

Suzy V.

Hi, enjoyed your info. on Ft. Lauderdale. I%26#39;m wondering if you have info regarding the snorkeling cruise you took. Do you have the name of the company and/or the price at that time? We are going right after Christmas with my whole family. Thanks for any info.

ruigirl,

Here%26#39;s the website:

http://www.discoverycruise.com/

Check your pricing. You might be able to get a better deal by putting together a package yourself.

Those taxes are way outta wack.

Alot of Scam travel companies use this deal as a come on.. and you end up paying more than you would if you booked a regular vacation.

Don%26#39;t know how or why this post got ';bumped up'; - all but the last answer are from 2005.

If you check other reviews on this site, most folks think the Discovery ship is horrible- but at any rate , two years later the prices stated are meaningless anyway.
