Hi Joni: If you go north of Sunrise Blvd. and south of Oakland Park Blvd. early in the morning (before 9am), the parking right on the street is free, and it is right next to the ocean. This is my favorite spot on the beach, but the parking gets full early at this time of year!

If you are going to the Sawgrass Mills Mall, you might consider the Valet parking (I think it was $15 last time I went -- I hate that mall..LOL....) it will be well worth the money to be right at the entry, since the mall is HUGE.

Have fun!

Sorry, I left out that you will have to be northbound on A1A between these two east/west Boulevards!

thanks again for replies to post

she has a handicap thingy that hangs from the mirror so we can park in that area at the mall

I%26#39;m pretty sure that the free parking on A1A is south of Sunrise Blvd. not North. It does fill up quick especially on the weekends.

Another good spot is A1A to NE 27th, go east to the end. There is a small metered parking lot, which also fills up quick but there are two handicapped spots that usually have an opening. It cost $1 per hour so make sure you have quarters. I%26#39;m pretty sure that even handicapped parkers still need to pay as I have seen a car get a ticket. The car%26#39;s handicapped permit had expired two days before.

There is a small grassy area with a few benches where your friend could sit to enjoy the beach without having to walk on the sand. and then a few stairs down to the beach

You are your friend would enjoy a Carrie B. cruise. Fort Lauderdale is seen at its best from the water.

we are going to do the carrie b cruise.i went on the jungle queen a few years ago as part of a package from a manilow convention at the raddison and i was not impressed. the food and the whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth .. lol

she also wants to go to deerfied beach, i have no idea where that is but hey i dont care. it wont be -15 there ,,,

thanks again

Sawgrass Mills is so massive that I wonder if your disabled friend will be able to handle it very well even with a cane. You might want to go to their website and print out a map and try to identify one area that has her favorite shops to concentrate on:

Hi Joni:

Just got home from the beach. The free parking on the beach is from Sunrise Boulevard on the south end to the Pelican Grand (which is just south of Oakland park)...on the beach side...

It was soooo beautiful out today!!! Lots of people on the beach for spring break!!!

Have fun when you come down!
