Polynesian Isles or Cypress Point Grande Villas?

Hi all,

After much organising, we have decided to move our holidays to the USA forward from May 2008 to end of August, 2007.

We have been advised by our timeshare exchange company that we can have either Polynesian Isles 2 bedroom or Cypress Pointe Grande Villas 2 bedroom on the dates we need.

Any opinions between the 2 would be appreciated - I should probably add that we are from Australia, have never been to the USA before and will probably find it a bit confusing to get around, and are a married couple in mid 40s who like nice pools and restaurants etc closeby.

Polynesian Isles or Cypress Point Grande Villas?

Bump for responses

Polynesian Isles or Cypress Point Grande Villas?

I posted this response to the same question on the FL forum. Maybe you already read it but just in case here it is:

I would assume you%26#39;re renting a car. If not, you will be dependent on the hotel shuttles to get back and forth.

I think Cypress Pointe Grandvillas is in a better location, personally, particularly if you are planning to go to Universal and SeaWorld as well as Disney. Cypress Pointe is in a very central location to all of the theme parks; Polynesian Isles is in a good place to visit Disney (its somewhat conveniently located to the best entrance to Disney, in my opinion), but not as good for Universal and SeaWorld; it just means more travel time.

Restaurants near Cypress Pointe Grandvillas (for the most part its walkable to them): Chili%26#39;s, Olive Garden, Black Angus Steakhouse, Joe%26#39;s Crab Shack, Hooters, Red Lobster, Giordano%26#39;s (pizza), Orlando Ale House, Buffalo Wild Wings, and others.

Restaurants near Poly: Olive Garden, Chili%26#39;s, Macaroni Grill, Longhorn Steakhouse, Nemo%26#39;s Lobster Buffet, and fast food places down the street, and others

Poly is closer to a Super Wal-Mart (about a mile away, if that much, just up Polynesian Isles Blvd), and there%26#39;s a CVS pharmacy (and some grocery items) within walking distance as well (though you have to cross Hwy 192, a very busy road). There%26#39;s also a Hess gas station which is by the Wal-Mart, and competitively priced.

Cypress Pointe is very close to a Winn Dixie marketplace, which is competitively priced (though specials only go to cardholders; I don%26#39;t know whether tourists can get a card, but if you stay at Cypress, you can ask). A Goodings is a little farther, and very high priced by all accounts. Cypress Pointe is within 2 miles of Downtown Disney as well, a shopping (Disney items, mostly), nightlife, and restaurant complex on the Disney property.

I would consider the area around Cypress Pointe as more upscale, though both areas are very touristy.

My wife%26#39;s sister stayed at Cypress Pointe Grandvillas a couple of years ago, and we spent some time at the resort, though we never overnighted there. I like the setup; the villa buildings are in a circle around a common area, which has the Turtle pool and a good sized outdoor jacuzzi (I think there is a second pool and jacuzzi real close as well; I%26#39;m not sure though) and a 9 hole mini golf course with a little pool and fake waterfall or something like that, and a pavilion as well. It had a more laid back feel, with different colors for the buildings. The unit they had was small (only a one bedroom), though it would have been large enough for only 2, but they had more than that. However, with a 2bd, you should be better off

definitely.

Have never been in the Polynesian, but driving by it a number of times, all the buildings look like they are the same color outside. It looks like they have some good subtropical vegetation there too.

Palm Pkwy is near Cypress Pointe Grandvillas, and is an excellent back way to both SeaWorld and Universal Studios (it eventually changes names to Turkey Lake Rd.) and the International Drive (I-Drive area, as well as ';Restaurant Row'; on Sand Lake Rd. west of Turkey Lake Rd.; one of the best concentrations of fine dining in the Orlando area (go to the Orlando forum and search using the term ';Restaurant Row';).

Thanks so much - that helps me make my decision!

Cheers,

Deb

We%26#39;ve stayed at both. We love to try different timeshares for variety, and the good news for you is that these are both terriffic properties. In either place the staff should be able to help you with maps and dirctions for getting around.
