I will be visiting Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood with my two sons, ages 19 and 22 in May. A reader to Trip Advisor was kind enough to show me a web site showing the crime in the area. I was surprised that the area%26#39;s crime is much higher than the nation%26#39;s average.
Can anyone recommend areas, especially at night, that are ok to visit or areas where we should avoid. My sons like to party and I worry about their safety.
Safe tourist area
All the tourist areas in town are safe. Your sons likely will party around Beach Place or Himmarshee Village and both are low crime areas. The areas that have high crime incidences are not in the tourist areas and are frequently related to drug transactions and the like. Your sons shold not have any reason to go to the high crime areas of the city- I%26#39;ve lived here for years and never had to.
I don%26#39;t think the crime rates you are seeing are any higher or lower than any urban area of comparable size.
