Hi
We are on holiday in Orlando end June / beginning of July. I%26#39;ve read a couple of posts to do with ';love bugs';, what are these? And what sort of other biting bugs will be around? As I live in Scotland I%26#39;m used to the ';midge';, but do agree the further north in Scotland you go the more they seem to bite.
Products containing ';Deet'; have helped the last few years, so far I%26#39;ve managed the last few trips with no bites!! Previous holidays have resulted in medical centre trips having the bites lanced and occassionally accompanied with anti-biotics!! Perhaps as I%26#39;m getting older my blood is becoming less tasty!
Any advice much appreciated....... what products are available locally in Orlando that I could buy?

Biting Bugs June / July
Love bugs dont bite and you shouldn%26#39;t encounter any in those months . They Have 2 hatches a year Late April - May, %26amp; Sept - Oct.
Their more interested in each other than anything else and almost from birth (cos most Insects are born adults) they fly around coupled together . After mating the female lays eggs then dies.
So they have to make the most of it while they are together as they only get one go. But they make a nuisance of themselves while they are around. splatter the car windscreen and peal off the paint if you dont wash them off.
Going to any subtropical country you can expect lots of others that do bite, particularly after the heat of the day , in shade, and near water. So you can say almost everywhere in Florida , so get some insect repellent as soon as you get there , Wet Wipes with repellent are also handy as you can carry a single pack in your pocket all the time. as well as the little sprays.

And watch out in the grass for Fire Ants. Don%26#39;t walk in the grass with no protection on your feet. They DO bite and they are vicious.
mosquitos, no see ums, the occasional bee or wasp (but they are nothing really to worry about), the occasional horse fly or yellow fly....mostly skeeters as big as houses and no see ums.....wear light colored clothes, use something with deet or use avon skin so soft or bring autan with you (they don%26#39;t sell it here)
Perhaps we are the exception but me or hubby have never been biten by any bugs while in the Orlando area or at the theme parks. We go every year in June. We don%26#39;t wear any repellant. The only time we were bothered was when we went to the beach in the gulf coast area and the sand fleas bit like crazy. We go to the east coast now and haven%26#39;t even seen any there. We live in the midwest and that is a different story. Chiggers and mosquitos get us if we don%26#39;t wear repellant.

hi irisuk.
all the years that we have going to florida we were only bitten when we wen to splendid china, the bugs there were dreadfully would bite you on the legs that were left bare etc, nasty
thanks pam
Iris,
The built up areas are pretty bug free and the mossies are spryaed with a venom elsewhere.
I golf and we walk the course in the evenings and have never had a bite. THat said, the mossies do bite some people. Avon Skin so Soft is better than all the stuff with Deet we used it in India and Mexico without an issue.
Iris if you want to use something with Deet in it..in 2005. I bought Deep Wood Off.. 2 different strengths in Walgreens ..I always have to use mosi repellent in Orlando ( especially if raining and walking near grass) and of course more so at night..... The stronger one I bought for use on Sanible Island where ';no see ums'; are a real pain in the butt.....I shall be buying more for Marco island this year..
By the way I finished the bottle off last eyar in Crete .. that kept the little blighters away from me there.. so I shall be stocking up this year!
Good Luck with this problem - I really hate mosi%26#39;s and how uncomfortable they make you feel!
I get bitten regularly despite insect repellant. I think I must have tastier blood than the rest of you.
The best advice is not to walk through grass,my sons ankles get bit to pieces when he forgets to keep on the path ways.
Not a fan of bugs/crawlies of any kind but i can honestly say in all the times we%26#39;ve done orlando never been bitten. Did see lots of lizards. Don%26#39;t like them either. And i%26#39;m sure i saw an armadillo one night but my sister said it was the bud....Can,t eat dime bars since.
