3 days in KW, what should we not miss??

We will arrive on Monday afternoon and leave early on Friday so we have 3 1/2 days to see KW. I think that we would like to stay on the island versus going to see the Dry Tortugas since it would take most of a day. What sights and activiites should we put on our list of must see or do besides eating, drinking and getting some sun?

3 days in KW, what should we not miss??

Broken record here but I love them all.

Conch Train Tour

Butterfly Conservatory

Go to the to of La Concha... day or night

Rent a bike and ';find'; KW for yourself

People watch at one of the many Bars/Restaurants with an outside seating area.

The Cemetery...pretty cool stuff there.

Wake up early and walk the Bight before the sun comes up.

3 days in KW, what should we not miss??

get in the water! look below! snorkel our reef.

I think you%26#39;re right to put off the trip to Ft Jefferson, given the short time frame you have.

At the risk of boring other forum members with a repeat post...

I would recommend renting bikes, in addition to just wandering around the quieter streets of Old Town on foot. Here%26#39;s a link to one of our favorite resources for navigating around Key West, either on foot or bicycle. It%26#39;s called the Walking and Biking Guide to Historic Key West, by long time resident Sharon Wells.

http://www.seekeywest.com/guide.htm

You will be able to pick these up (free) wherever you find tourista information. The guide contains an overview map of Old Town, as well as a number of walking tours specific to different neighborhoods. On the site, you%26#39;ll find a couple of samples of these, including one of the historic cemetary. If you want to learn boatloads of history about Key West, Sharon%26#39;s guide is just the thing.

Oh, and in a town that can be fairly expensive, this free guide, (did I mention it was free?), will provide hours of educational fun. We%26#39;ve been to Key West six times in the last few years, and we still pick it up every time and take a few of the walks - and we will do so again on our next visit. A great resource for newbies and vets alike.

More broken records.....

IMO the best way to spend a day in Key West is to spend it out of Key West, either here...

http://www.dangercharters.com/

or here...

The simple stuff:

Sunset Celebration at Mallory Square

Old Town Trolley (Better IMO than the Train because of the all day pass with on %26amp; off privledges at ten stops around the island but then again, I%26#39;m a Trolley driver)

Snorkle the reef

If this list mimics others, it%26#39;s cause there%26#39;s certain %26#39;shouldn%26#39;t miss stuff%26#39; that alot of us agree on!

  • Ticket Questions DW & Sea World

Does anyone know if when you order tickets online from either Disney or Sea World, if you can print the tickets off on your PC or do they have to mail them to you ...or use will call?

I wouldn%26#39;t want to get Disney tickets at the gate on the day of going which should be 5-31....But heard it might not be that big a deal to get them at the gate for Sea World on Sunday 6-3....

    Thanks for any input....

Ticket Questions DW %26amp; Sea World

I know that SeaWorld has ETickets that you just print from your computer. I think with Disney, they mail them to you.

Ticket Questions DW %26amp; Sea World

If you are staying at an on-site Disney hotel, you can pick them up when you check in.

I have also picked them up at guest services. I have never had them mailed, but that doesn%26#39;t mean they don%26#39;t. I do not know if they mail or not.

Sea World has tickets that can be printed on-line.

I have done the ';will call'; of the Disney tickets I bought on line in the past. It%26#39;s really no big deal if you get to the park early in the day to pick up the tickets.

Disney will also mail your tickets to you if you purchase from their website, but they do charge you shipping.

I got my E tickets lastnight from sea world and printed them right from my computer. Worked good for me!

General advice on family trip to the key?

Hi, I%26#39;m considering a trip to the keys with my husband, 4 yr old and 7 month old. We are traveling from Illinois. Any suggestions on which airport is the most economical to fly into? We don%26#39;t mind driving to the island. Also, is it better to go to key west or key largo, we want to be able to do non water activities with the kids and some shopping?

General advice on family trip to the key?

Most use Fort Lauderdale or Miami to fly into. Just keep checking fares. I personally like Fort Lauderdale because its not as large as Miami and I seem to get going a lot quicker out of it. I would also come to KW if thats what you are looking to do with the kids. Theres a lot more to do and although the Keys are not known for shopping, KW does have the best.

General advice on family trip to the key?

A trip to the Keys is a great idea - but the how and where depend on what time of year are you coming and how long will you be here.

Most people fly into Miami or Ft. L. Miami is closer so I would pick that unless FtL is much cheaper. If you arrive at dinner or after, stay in your arrival city that night. You want to do the drive to the Keys in the day time-that%26#39;s half the fun.

You drive to the Keys going down the Turnpike, which ends in Florida City, on the mainland. From there, you could go to Everglades National Park for a few hours and view lots of alligators, birds, etc. A great choice for the 4 yo. There is a boardwalk trail so the baby can stay in the stroller. However, summer is mosquito season so if you are coming in June/July/August, I would skip this (or at least check on mosquito levels before you go). The drive to Florida City will be about 1 hour (30 min more from Ft. L)

At Florida City, you are on US 1 and on the way to the Keys. You%26#39;ll drive through the Everglades (either on US 1 or Card Sound Road - post on that closer to time). About 30 min of driving gets you to Key Largo. Pick a hotel in either Key Largo or Islamorada. With the kids, you may want to have a condo set up. There%26#39;s choices like Key Largo Suites, Ocean Pointe, or rentals through VRBO,com. Just look for something between Mile Marker 104 and 80.

Activities - Theatre of the Sea, Wild Bird Sanctuary, Jacobs Aquatic Center (big pirate ship playground in zero grade entry pool), feed the tarpon at Robbies (mm 77), World Wide Sportsman (shopping plus a replica boat). There%26#39;s a nice park at Islamorada%26#39;s Founders Park.

The 4 yo may be okay on a glass bottom boat ride. Each parent should have a chance to snorkel from Pennekamp. (2 hour trip). The other parent can babysit and see the aquarium, sit in the sand at a little beach, etc.

Take a day trip to Key West or if you have a week, consider moving to have a couple of days in Key West. More shopping. You can stop at Bahia Honda - a beautiful state park.

keymom smacked a HR with her response. Follow her advice and you will not go wrong.

That being said, I always look at the airfares and flight times for FLL and MIA. I pick whichever is cheaper and fits better into MY schedule. IMHO it does not matter TIME wise which airport you choose.

At MIA you have to get your luggage, get into a shuttle to the rental car place, navagate the traffic around MIA to get to the toll road.

In FLL the rental car palces are right at the airport, and the traffic isn%26#39;t as bad BUT you are another 20 - 25 minutes further away from the keys.

The time you save getting your rental car and driving in better traffic is used up by the fact that you are further away.

Bottom line - as I said IMHO it doesn%26#39;t matter time wise.

How do you get to the Dry Tortugas National Park from Key Largo? or is best from Key West

Hi, thanks for the replies, for additional info we will be there last week of June. We want to stay somewhere economical and right on the beach, and suggestions? Also key west, largo, etc?

We will only be there 4 nites.

Lady, are you looking to split the trip up between the 2 keys?

I鈥檓 currently planning a trip to Key Largo and there are lots of very well reviewed budget hotels right here on Trip Advisor. I found so many in my price range (under $100) that I%26#39;m even able to get really picky about specific amenities I鈥檓 looking for in order to narrow it down.

It鈥檚 also a good idea to search within the forum for key words like 鈥榗hildren鈥?and 鈥榖each%26#39; so you can get advice from past posters as well folks who are currently posting.

I will say that beaches are the most rare of all amenities. The Keys just aren鈥檛 a beach sort of place 鈥?it鈥檚 just not that kind of landscape. If you find a place that has a small beach on the property, or that is adjacent to one of the Key鈥檚 few beaches (probably the best idea), you鈥檝e found something special. Just don鈥檛 expect too much 鈥?many of the complaints I read on the reviews are people complaining about the poor quality of beaches and it makes me wonder if they did any sort of research before coming down.

With 4 days in June, I would stay in Key Largo or Islamorada. you could do a day trip to Key West if you like but with little ones, I think you%26#39;ll find the Upper Keys more relaxing.

Take a look at the tripadvisor hotel reviews for Key Largo and Islamorda - lots of good info there. I prefer to stay in places with two rooms so the kids can go to bed but DH and I can stay up (well, now that my kids are older, I%26#39;m the one that wants to go to bed early but that%26#39;s a whole other post). I also like a kitchen so that breakfast and snacks are easy. That%26#39;s why I suggest the Key Largo Suites or Ocean Pointe. The Suites are on a canal - but OP is on a sandy area. The earlier poster was correct that there aren%26#39;t big sandy beaches in the Keys. There is park near Ocean Pointe that has a sandy playground.

    So, fly to MIA or FTL, drive to your hotel and relax! My favorite clock in the Keys has all the numbers jumbled down at the bottom. Across the dial, it reads ';Who Cares?';

PS to the other poster - You need to go to Key West to get to Dry Tortugas.

    PPS - Thanks Buffetguy!

Thanks for all the advice. I guess I was confused, I thought the Keys had beaches, I looked at pictures and thought this was a beach destination. So this is not the place to come if we want to just hang out on the beach?

There are some nice beaches here. Most are small, but pretty.

  • International Drive ot not?

    Hi Folks

As 1st timers to Orlando, where would you stay? Family of 6 adults aged 23 to 56 yrs. Its all so confusing. Have looked at the cheaper options i.e. Quality Inns, Holiday Inns, as thought USA standards exceed UK standards, but mixed reviews on this site and we%26#39;re quite fussy. Have thought about a holiday home/villa, but thought hotels would have more amenities i.e. fitness room, golf, pool, restaurant/s and shuttes to Theme Parks. Also, is International Drive THE place to stay or are there better areas?

Finally, we want to go Christmas/New year and I%26#39;ve already been advised crowded and expensive, but its the only time we can all get 2 weeks off together and its our 30th wedding anniversary. The only thing I am finding expensive is flights, unless you go just after Christmas when it drops slightly. Also, is extra legroom a must on these long haul flights as again its an expensive supplement. Any advice appreciated.

    International Drive ot not?

Hiya, you didn%26#39;t mention if you are hiring a car, or which theme parks (universal or Disney) you want to visit? I have loads of reccommendations for you , but it would depened on the answer to these questions first, and if you%26#39;re looking for a basic hotel, or something a bit more extravegant. If you let me know, I could help a bit more,

    nikki.x

    International Drive ot not?

kissimmee and lake buena vista are nice area and cheap to. first choice have extra legroom as standard if that helps. as for a star rating you%26#39;d need at least 31/2 star anything less in orlando seems to be a motel. i was like you too i thought the star rating and standard would high too. i visited las vegas and the hotels there were of a higher standard. it must be a location thing.

    ';Also, is International Drive THE place to stay or are there better areas?';

There are a myriad of lodging options in the Orlando touristy areas. There is no one area that I can say is ';THE'; place to stay; its going to depend on your itinerary, wants and needs, and limitations.

Are you focused on Disney things, or are you visiting all of the theme parks? If focused on Disney, and don%26#39;t have a car, the best place to stay would be at one of the Disney resorts. There is free transportation within the resort, and free transportation from the airport (Magical Express). And there are 99 holes of golf onsite. You can also purchase the meal plan; however, booking Disney table service restaurants has to be done months in advance in many cases. And you would be at the mercy of the onsite Disney restaurants and activities if you don%26#39;t have a car; getting to Universal, SeaWorld, or International Drive would be more difficult, short of using a taxi.

There is no hotel in the busy part of International Drive that has a golf course onsite; however, the Rosen Plaza and Rosen Centre hotels may have shuttle to the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort nearby, which has a golf course. And in the quieter part of International Drive (International Drive is also referred to as I-Drive) by SeaWorld, there are several Marriott resorts by the Marriott Grande Pines GC; but there are less restaurants and such here; though you can use the I-Ride trolley (www.iridetrolley.com) to get to the busier areas of I-Drive.

The quieter area of I-Drive by SeaWorld is quieter and more upscale, but not as much around it. To the east of that area is Grande Lakes Resort, which features a Ritz Carlton and JW Marriott, and an onsite golf course.

Another popular area is the Lake Buena Vista area, near the Hotel Plaza Blvd entrance to Disney. One popular place is the Marriott Village, where you have three Marriott hotels (Fairfield Inn, SpringHill Suites, and Courtyard by Marriott) which share facilities. A little closer to the heart of Lake Buena Vista features a number of restaurants, including those at Downtown Disney (within the Disney gates at the other end of Hotel Plaza Blvd).

Some places, which are private rentals, like Windsor Hills, have shuttles, pools, and perhaps a fitness center, though they would still be better for people who have rented cars.

If you won%26#39;t have cars, unless you want to blow a bit of money on taxis, you%26#39;ll need to find a hotel with a shuttle or shuttles taking you to the theme parks you want. If you are staying on the line where the I-Ride Trolley is, you can take that to SeaWorld, and there is a busstop at or by SeaWorld (the #50 bus) which goes to the Ticket and Transportation Center at Disney, and from there you can visit any of the Disney parks using buses or Monorail, then backtrack. However, this route is not always 100% dependable; public transportation in Orlando is not equivalent to that in the UK. Also, you can%26#39;t go by a certain area as to what the hotel amenities in that area are; you need to check with the particular resorts. Someone mentioned a Sleep Inn close to I-Drive and SeaWorld which has shuttles to both Universal and Disney parks, but it would be best to confirm that.

If golf is very important to you, click on my name (';EddieK';), and I have a Go-List ';Nice Golf Courses in the Greater Disney Area.'; under ';Contributions';. For the most part, though, a car would be needed to get to those places reasonably.

Here%26#39;s a list of resorts which have golf courses onsite: The Disney resorts, Rosen Shingle Creek Resort, Marriott Grande Vista, Marriott Cypress Harbor, Orlando World Center Marriott, The Villas of Grande Cypress, Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress (shuttle to courses), Mystic Dunes Resort %26amp; Golf Club, Orange Lake Resort %26amp; Country Club, Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate, Orange County National Golf Club and Lodge, Bay Hill Club %26amp; Lodge, The Ritz Carlton/JW Marriott at Grande Lakes, Gaylord Palms (I think it has a shuttle to nearby Falcons Fire GC), and Reunion Resort and Golf Club. Though I may be forgetting something, this is all I can think of for onsite golf courses. Most of these are in locations (Disney excepted, of course), where it is best to have a rental car.

Hi xxxxNikkixxxx - yep, this is the problem. Not sure of locations re Universal and Disney. Think Universal might be more appealing to us as all adult party. Don%26#39;t know whats at Epcot or Busch Gdns. Seaworld may appeal too. We will hire a car as can%26#39;t go all that way and not visit other places - i.e. Daytona Beach (fast cars) and Cape Canaveral. I also have to consider that 4 of the party are 23 to 27 and may like some night life. We all like music, good food, shopping and fun things to do. Due to cost during week leading up to Christmas, we may only go for 10 days and just be there for New Year. But heard some parks undergo maintenance in January, altho guess we would be home by 5th. Are we really going at the worst time of the year?

The time from around Christmas to New Year%26#39;s is the worst time of the year for crowds at the theme parks.

Thanks EddieK for all your info. Very helpful. Golf would only appeal to 2 members of the party, I guess I just thought any hotel/resort with a golf course might be more upmarket and have good pools and fitness rooms. We wil probably only hire one car, but aware that we wont all be together all the time, so being able to get about independently on the odd day or eve would be good.

Disney is not just for kids as you seem to think. You said, ';Don%26#39;t know whats at Epcot or Busch Gdns.'; A quick check with your Google Gods will give you all the details you need. And you have a lot of time to explore the details. Bring plenty of moola though, as others have said Christmas is one of the most expensive of times and also the most crowded. But the weather will not be as hot as Summertime.

For 6 adults you will need to rent a minivan to be able to get around comfortably. And to lessen the cost of accommodation you might want to stay in a condo instead of a hotel. Don%26#39;t worry about not having an exercise room - you%26#39;ll get all the walking exercise you need at the theme parks.

I think staying on or near I-Drive south near SeaWorld might not be a bad idea for you. Its quieter (if going those dates, that may be a big deal to be in a little quieter area), and definitely has a more ';upmarket'; feelYou%26#39;re still not that far away from Universal there, and there are a lot of nicer timeshare properties there (the Marriotts I mentioned, Hilton Grand Vacations Club on I-Drive or right by SeaWorld). Then there%26#39;s the Floriday%26#39;s resort, close to Orlando Premium Outlets and very new; its a condohotel type of place, and Sheraton Vistana Villages. Also there%26#39;s the Residence Inn close to SeaWorld and the Hilton Garden Inn. The only thing is some of these properties aren%26#39;t ';full service'; hotels (if you prefer a full service hotel, the Renaissance Orlando at SeaWorld could be considered, though its certainly not one of the cheaper options), though they should have a lot of amenities such as fitness rooms (some may charge for them, some may not). There%26#39;s golf pretty close nearby, and plenty of restaurants to the north on I-Drive, and the Lake Buena Vista area is not that far away either, with more restaurants, including the Downtown Disney ones.

Of course its all going to depend on your lodging budget, especially for that time of year.

    Not!!!!!

try LBV or a hotel/condo like Windsor Palms/hills.

Thanx Amanx. Checked out hotels in LBV and they seem more suited to us all.

Would you book a package or would you book direct with hotel and then try and get a flight? I know Virgin seem the most popular but also the most expensive.

Only One Afternoon and Evening in Cocoa Beach - What To Do?

We have booked a one night precruise stay at The Hilton on Cocoa Beach this September. We are staying at WDW the week prior to our cruise and so we should arrive at Cocoa Beach around 4-5pm.

Due to such a limited amount of tme to explore and experience CB what would be your ';must do and see%26#39;s';?

Also as a side thing, am I right in thinking it will cost approx $15 for a taxi to the port?

Head to the Cocoa Beach pier. Thats were most of the action is. Good places to eat and it%26#39;s a fun place to go.

Only One Afternoon and Evening in Cocoa Beach - What To Do?

We spent four nights in Cocoa Beach in March and really enjoyed spending time at the pier. Great food, great drinks and great view.

    Relax at the beach at the Hilton and take a nice long stroll on it. It will be sunet which is beautiful time of day at the beach. You%26#39;ll be wore out after disney so I would just relax and take it easy. Go out for a casual dinner or order in to your room. The best thing about Cocoa Beach is the BEACH as long as you see that, you%26#39;ve done the ';must see.';

The Pier, the beach, but you shouldn%26#39;t miss the famous Ron-Jon%26#39;s surf shop either.

Some great ideas here, i reaally cant wait to experience Cocoa Beach. Im wondering if i should cut my last day at Disney short and head to CB first thing in the morning.

Please help me choose, another Disney day or a relaxing beach day? (Two adults, no kids, just kids at heart!)

The advice here is amazing, thank you all so much

    Em

Maybe after a week at the parks you will have had enough of Disney magic. No telling until you and the family get there. You can go on the beach in the afternoon, the pier at night and Ron-Jon%26#39;s is open 24 hours.

Cut Disney by a day is my vote... or 7 days!

Sterling Casino Cruise is a nice and fun afternoon. Drinks and dinner at Grills at the port after the cruise. The Cocoa Beach Pier, some shops, restaurants, bars and great views. You could easily spend a couple hours in Ron Jons.

I was at the beach this morning. The waves are amazing.

Once a month my husband and I get a sitter for date night. Usually we end up at Cocoa beach. I would say after a week at WDW, you will probably enjoy the change.

oh whats the Sterling Casino Cruise?

    Thanks

    Em

The Sterling is a gambling boat. I agree with all of these post but would add some time at the port. Sit outside at the Tiki for breakfast and watch the ships come and go, or any one of the places to eat and party late into the evening.

    Disney room requests by fax

Have any of you ever tried this, and if so has it worked? I certainly wouldn%26#39;t want to irritate the room assigner!!! What are your thoughts?

    Disney room requests by fax

I have found faxes and e mails of this nature get ignored. I call, get the managers name and write a letter to him/her and ask for the room I would like and all my requests and have gotten much greater satisfaction this way.Write about 10 days in advance of your reservation as that is when they start blocking rooms.

    Disney room requests by fax

I had booked a Magic Kingdom View room at the Grand Floridian Resort. I later called to book some dining reservations and asked to be put through to someone to ask about my room assignment, It was the main booking number, She was very nice, but didnt really know the lay out of the resort,

She looked at a map of the resort and aid that she thought I would be better in the Conch Building and put in a request for that.

About a week before I sent a fax directly to the reservations manager at the Resort. I said that we had been told we were in Conch Building as they thought that was the best, but to please just assign us the best Castle View room as it was for my Daughters third birthday, I also said that I would prefer a Dormer room as I had heard they had private Balconies.

Apon check in we were assigned a castle view Dormer room in Conch Building,

So it sounds like it%26#39;s worth a try. I already listed my requests when I made the reservations, but just like to be on the safe side. Between my family unit, and my parents we have two rooms booked. Therefore it is very important that we get adjoining rooms. It%26#39;s hard not to sound to demanding, but at the same time you pay good money for the rooms, so you kind of expect to get what you%26#39;ve requested. Thanks for the feedback, and let me know if you have more suggestions!

I have never visited Florida before. My husband, daughter-6yrs-and I would like to spend a few days in Orlando followed by a relaxing week or so in either Naples or Marco Island.

My dilemma is finding a suitable hotel. I like the sound of the Marriott resort in Marco Island or one of the Ritz-carlton hotels in Naples.

Would appreciate some advice on these hotels and resorts.

    Naples or Marco Island?

In terms of keeping a 6 y/o busy for a week, I think Naples would have more to offer. There is a zoo here, a new waterpark, and the beach. Marco has beautiful beaches and one park, but not much more to capture a child%26#39;s attention.

I know that the Ritz Carlton has a special ';Ritz Kids'; program at the hotel, but I don%26#39;t know how good it is. No idea whether the Marriott has a similar program down on Marco.

HI Arella - there was a post last month that listed several things to do in Naples for children age 4 and 7 - you can view the responses at

Las Villas at Sand Lake Village

I am thinking about staying at Las Villas at Sand Lake Village, which is adjacent to Westgate Lakes Resort in Orlando. I can%26#39;t seem to find any reviews. Anybody know anything about the Las Villas?

Las Villas at Sand Lake Village

Had never heard of this. Checked a couple of websites by googling (I googled ';Las Villas Turkey-Lake); it seems that this is either part of Westgate Lakes, or at least you have to check in at Westgate Lakes. I saw a picture of a pool, which looks exactly like the south pool at Westgate Lakes. Also saw a description of it as being a ';boutique'; hotel. Also saw a listing of some prices which weren%26#39;t particularly high. My guess is that there are some of the older Westgate condos on the south side of the Westgate Smokehouse Grill; perhaps Westgate renovated and tried to ';retheme'; the place, and sell it exclusively as a hotel. Westgate has a rep for aggresively marketing their timeshares; my assumption is that if this is the way it is at the rest of the resort, its possible that it might be the same at Las Villas.

Las Villas at Sand Lake Village

Thank you for your information. I was able to confirm, by contacting Westgate Lakes, that the Las Villas are adjacent to Westgate Lakes and privately owned. They do, apparently, have access to Westgate Lake%26#39;s restaurant area and that pool. I was just concerned about the quality of the las villas as I have been unable to find any reviews about them. Thank you for your response.

My guess is then that Westgate must have sold off the older units south of the Smokehouse Grill.

I emailed TripAdvisor support on whether there should be a separate listing for Las Villas at Sand Lake Village in the Orlando lodging options, citing this topic. Thanks for the info.

    Spaceship Earth

Is it really closed in August???? The Disney website calendar has it listed as closed! My kids will be very sad.

    Spaceship Earth

They are doing ';phased'; renovations to the Spaceship Earth ride and I guess the larger part of the renovation will begin on July 9th, as that%26#39;s when it%26#39;s slated to close for an extended period of time.

    Sorry about that.

Want best shelling 'tour' - also to sight dolphins??

Hey everyone...We are spending 3 nights in Fort Myers Beach and are looking for the best (also think best value) shelling tour to maybe Captiva area...also would really like to see the dolphins on the way. Anyone have any advice, or experience in using one of the specific companies? We will be at Marco Island, Sanibel and Fort Myers Beach, also Naples...so departing from any of those areas would be fine. THANKS!!!!

    Hello

Me and my wife are spending a week in key west ( may 22 / may 29) this summer. How is the weather ? is it wery hot ? humid ?

We are staying at the avalon bed%26amp;brekfast has anybody styd there, if so how is it ? Is there any problem whit mosquitos in key west ? We want to go diving, is key west good for bginner divers?

    best regards

    Fossdal

    Information please ;o)

Iceland! Wow, good for you. It%26#39;s warm, our average is 77 F, but I expect you want a warm destination. I can%26#39;t speak to the B%26amp;B because I live here. Mosquitos are here all year (except this week....we%26#39;re cold) but usually only around sunset, and a little spray takes care of the problem. Perhaps you%26#39;ve seen video of people slapping themselves....it%26#39;s not that bad, you%26#39;re in a city environment.

There%26#39;s a great opportunity for diving, you can get certified in a 3 day course, or you can sign up for a 1 day ';resort course'; and dive right away to one atmosphere (33 feet) which is plenty for color and reef diving. Snorkeling is everywhere too if diving is too much trouble. Our reef is zero to 30 feet deep, no training, plenty of helpful boat trips get there everyday.

Ask more! Hope your trip is great.

    Information please ;o)

Diving in the keys is great for beginners,no current and shallow.

Most dives are 45%26#39; max depth. If you haven%26#39;t been diving for a while do a check out dive to make sure you are weighted properly and all youe rented gear works right and you are comfertable. If you are a real beginner ( never been diving before) take the time to take to get certified, the keys is an easy place to learn.

    Hi Fossdal,

Iceland to nice land Key West. We go down to Key West in May (this year 23 to June 2).

The weather is 85 degrees day and 75 at night, give or take a degree or two. Some days are humid but with a breeze. We always stay at a place with a pool. I am not sure the Avalon has a pool but you are close to the Beach. We stay at B%26amp;B鈥檚 but never at the Avalon. We have never had a problem with mosquitos in Key West.

Sorry can鈥檛 help with diving. PJ

    Thanks for the info.

keywestaxi you say its cold now in key west, it麓s 32 fahrenh. is icleland now and thats not so cold :o)

I will be on a rental car this may, is it hard to find parking in ket west ? is there any long term parking lots ? What if been reading you can walk any were in key west.

The Avalon is in the 1300 block of Duval, our main drag. It used to be Alexander%26#39;s, I think. Obviously 13 blocks to the other end, and all the bars/restaurants are in between. I don%26#39;t think you need the car. Parking up there isn%26#39;t bad, but it%26#39;s another $200 out. If you%26#39;re comfortable walking or even renting bicycles for $10 a day delivered, lose the car.

Avalon B %26amp; B - Great Chpice, excellent location and a little less expensive than some other b %26amp; B%26#39;s.

Be sure to check out the butterfly conservatory right across the street

As a self confessed shopaholic I am wondering whether I am reading things right when clothing etc. is soooo cheap in Florida!

Not wanting to spend my whole 2 weeks shopping (my idea of heaven - not for my hubby and son)! I was wondering whether anyone had ever purchased a few days of clothing beforehand and then bought the rest when they were away?

$19.00 Levis in Walmart sound good to me!!!

    Shopping

    Hi there,

Having made the mistake of over packing the first time I went I travel very light anyway. Apart from the essentials I take, 5/6 prs shorts, 2 sun dresses and a few strappy tops. However once I%26#39;m there I do go out and shop for things to wear while I%26#39;m there. I find most things I need (and more!) at the Premium Outlets.

I think taking just a few days of clothing will be fine, if you like shopping it will be almost impossible not to find things you like.

Premium Outlets also have a levi shop, and discount coupons usually give you a further 10% off the tag price.

    Hope this helps.

    Shopping

Things are cheaper in Florida. My husband just bought 2 pairs of Levi%26#39;s and as the exchange rate is so good our visa bill came up at 拢27.68, for TWO PAIRS!!! WOW. Most everyday clothing seems to be roughly about half our price. We shopped in Wal-mart and it was very strange to see the George ( Asda ) logo on some of the items and of course at a much lower price. Get ready to shop Twent : %26gt; )

Thanks very much - had a little look on the Bloomingdales and Macy%26#39;s sites and was amazed at their kids clothes. My boss went to New York last year and when in Bloomingdales was advised to register and he got discount off everything he bought - is this the same in Florida?

perhaps its me but the levi%26#39;s they sell out there aren%26#39;t as good as some we get over here!

Yeah same as NY,, In Macys and Bloomingdales you get around an 11% out of town discount cant be used on cosmetics though.

They are in the Mall at milenia which is my fave mall, not many normal shops and no outlets here its top end designer but still cheaper than the UK

Here%26#39;s another vote for the Mall at Millenia and the visitor%26#39;s discount. You get the discount even off sale items. I%26#39;ve brought back RL Polo and Tommy hifiger shirts for my boys at only $5 with that discount! I buy their normal everyday levis at Wallmart and their trainers at either the outlets or mall. Water shoes, sandals, toys games phones, DVD%26#39;s at Walmart or target.

I read somewhere on here that JC Penneys give a discount of 11%, you have to go to the Guest Services Desk to get the card.

Levis from the US are just as good as here in my book, my husband usually buyes them at Penneys for around $30 but this year we%26#39;ll take a look at Walmart

My favs are Florida Mall in Orlando and Aventura in Miami.

Can%26#39;t wait to visit the Millenia one, its new since our last visit.

    3 wks to go

Have a lovely trip and happy shopping

    Rettie

we found that the premium outlets are our favourite with the likes of calvein klein, lacoste, ralph lauren, hugo boss, timberland etc etc etc. When you go to macys at the florida mall , go to guest services i think the area is called gift wrapping, well go there , and they just ask where your from and give you and 11% discount card which is valid for around 30 days (ish)

    Twent

Put it this way, after you come home from florida, you will grudge every penny you spend at the metro centre from then on. I do. !!!

    Thank you very much Scottishmum.

By now I would have clothes for day and night already bought ready to pack but I am now determined only to take a few days for each of us! I am waiting for the Next Sale - bought everything last year and the week before we went away ninety percent of it was in the sale and at least half price!

My little boy can get as grubby as he wants at those prices - that poor MetroCentre will be crying that I haven%26#39;t been spending already!

    MCO transportation

I am looking for a town car or limo from the airport to Downtown Disney Buena Vista Palace. ???

    MCO transportation

    Google??

    MCO transportation

Try Mears shuttle service. I almost booked the towncar so I know they have one.

www.happylimo.com or www.tiffanytowncar.com are both good. Mears is pretty awful-try www.mousesavers.com for other recommendations

Mears transportation, you can book online.

Can anyone recommend a very nice condo on the beach?

Just got back from Naples for the first time w/ hubby. I loved it! We stayed at the Ritz on the Beach. We would like to rent a condo the next time around on the beach. There are so many condos to choose from. Can anyone recommend a great complex to rent from? Thanks in advance.

Can anyone recommend a very nice condo on the beach?

We stayed at The Dunes at the end of February ... very nice complex, and can walk to the beach. Could also see the gulf from our condo. Very clean facilities and very secure. Each building has its own pool plus there is a gorgeous, huge community pool .... next to community pool is tiki bar/outdoor restaurant, and there is a lovely indoor restaurant. They also have tennis courts, etc.

Can anyone recommend a very nice condo on the beach?

You should consider a rental in Pelican Bay at any one of their waterfront buildings. You could stay right next door to the Ritz in a subdivision of Pelican Bay called Bay Colony. Bay Colony has approx. 4 buildings right on the beach and has its own private beach club, too. This website, %26lt;http://www.pelicanbay.com/siteplan.asp%26gt; gives you a site plan for all of Pelican Bay, and you can search for the names of the waterfront buildings.

Another suggestion is Naples Cay, a development just south of the Naples Grande and Clam Pass (Seagate Dr., west of US 41). Their website has descriptions of the buildings and a link to rental properties available: http://www.naplescay.com/aboutnaplescay.asp.

    Hi Janiekins

Cyber Rentals has a search feature on their site to select beachfront condos - you can see photos, prices, etc -

    cyberrentals.com/naples-area/…31

I agree with Izrandall. Naplescay.com is the way to go. The Club and The Westshore offer the only weekly beachfront condo rentals in town. The other properties require a 30 or even 90 stay. Come back to Naples and enjoy the great views from the balconies at these condos.

Buy there or bring beach umbrella?

We are heading to Ft. lauderdale in June with our three kiddos and were wondering about our beach essentials! :) Our littlest one will be 2 and will need some sort of beach umbrella....is that something I can rent there or buy and leave it? What do you suggest? thanks, guys!

Buy there or bring beach umbrella?

It might depend on the length of your stay. Many hotels on the beach provide umbrellas, chairs for their guests. I%26#39;m not sure how much an umbrella rental might be but for more than one day it would probably pay to buy one, in Walgreens, Target, etc. Or bring one with you. Since you will be here in the rainy season you may want to bring a rain umbrella as well. If it does rain during your visit, it will probably be quick and in the afternoon.

Buy there or bring beach umbrella?

I believe umbrella rentals on the beach are $15 /day ( chairs $10), so if you are planning several days at the beach you might want to purchase- but only if you have a car so you can do so off the beach, as I think the beach front shops will have ';tourist trap'; prices. Depends on where you%26#39;re staying , but there isn%26#39;t a Walgreens , Target or CVS right on the beach for your purchase -you%26#39;d need to go several blocks at least- don%26#39;t recall which hotel you finally chose.

I actually disagree with Pat that ';most'; hotels provide umbrellas- I think most don%26#39;t- many hotel reviews contain complaints about the price of renting umbrellas and /or chairs.

The OP is staying at BW Oceanside. Last weekend they were charging $15 for a beachchair at the shops just south of Sunrise. I only know because I was tempted to buy one during the Air Show.

If you%26#39;re driving to the BWO from the Airport, you will go across 17th St and should find a CVS drugs on your left just past the Cordova Rd traffic light and a Walgreens on the right beyond that at the Eisenhower /Convention Center light. Both should have decent selection of chairs, umbrellas, coolers , shirts, hats , flip flops and sun lotion ( the generic no-ad brand works for us) at fairly good prices- better than you will likely find once you are on the beach. Make sure your little ones keep a hat on- the sun is very direct in June and keep everyone full of water as well.

I don%26#39;t usually need to rent things on the beach, but I think most of the places on the beach are concession stands rented from the City ( which owns the beach). They tend to have high mark up and the little beachwear shops in that area also are usually more expensive than Walgreens or CVS.

  • Quality beer bars and stores

    Hello all,

The wife and I are coming over from New Orleans in a few months. We%26#39;re big fans of craft beer spots, both bars, restaurants and retail outlets. We know about Maguire%26#39;s and are looking forward to going. We also are hopeful about this Seville Quarter complex, although I haven%26#39;t seen anything about there being a great beer selection there.

The last time we were in the area, the Santa Rosa Brewery was still open. Appears to have closed though.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also any retail stores that have a great selection.

    Thanks

    Quality beer bars and stores

Hello- there are actually a couple places worth mentioning. Seville is a good place for drinking and entertainment. There is not too great of a selection, although they recently started to stock one kind of Leinenkugel%26#39;s recently. They have all the traditional imports and domestics. Nothing you have not seen before.

For a different experience there is a pub called Brews Brothers on Navy Blvd near NAS Pensacola. They have a large variety of strange and unusual brews on tap as well as bottled. The barmaid will let you sample small plastic cups of each beer until you find one you%26#39;d like to order. They just moved to a new location across the street from the old one, but I have yet to go there. I don%26#39;t think anything other than location changed, and I hear there are less pool tables.

For a great retail store you should check out Four Seasons Market and International Deli located at 9th Ave and Creighton in teh shopping center around hte corner from Blockbuster video. It is an experience in itself! His a FANTASTIC variety of imported beers, wines, and sodas. I buy my cases of wine there because I can mix and match and barter for a great deal with the owner. He is a character, and worth having a conversation or 10 with. They have a deli there as well that has a variety of fresh baked breads and strange dips and cheeses. And boy do they have a LOT of cheese- many strange imports that I love. He gives out free samples of everything as well. They have a website you can check out usually with a coupon for a discount posted. He has a ton of international cuisine and they make good sandwiches too.

Many thanks for your input. They look like excellent choices.

Being a lover of beer and wines myself I must reply to this post. Seville Quarter has a good selection of beers on draft (including my fave...Guinness and only about $3.75/glass, can%26#39;t beat that price) at the End of the Alley Pub...it is next to the outdoor courtyard. You should check this out.

Brews Brother on Navy has an excellent selection on tap.

For bottle beers Chan%26#39;s Wine World on Bayou Boulevard is excellent, they also have a fridge case full of chilled brews and Richey%26#39;s East on Gregory Street.

There is a new Martini bar on Pensacola Beach, the Olive Drop.

Sometime in August/September there is an annual Beer Festival at Seville Quarter and they serve up samples of 200+ beers, it is a great time.

    hi

can anyone tell me are there any child friendly english bars in the kissimmee area thanks.

    pubs

do you mean for night time activies? or to eat in?

I have recently told a poster that children are not really welcomed in bars.

Now if it a food type place that turns into a bar than you could have them there for a while... but 9 or 10pm is pushing it, as we have minimum age requirements and young children are not welcomed in establishments.

Casual Seafood Restaurants Near FL Grande

We%26#39;ll be staying at the FL Grande for one night, pre-cruise on Saturday, July 28th.

We%26#39;ve never been to Fort Lauderdale before and we%26#39;re looking for suggestions for a fun, casual seafood place on the water (beach or intracoastal...doesn%26#39;t matter). We%26#39;ll want to drink some cold beer and have some good seafood and hopefully have fun people and boat watching. Not picky about the seafood but would like more than just fried seafood.

Oh...in case it matters...we like to walk as long as it%26#39;s a reasonable distance (within 20 minutes) but will gladly take the water taxi, regular taxi, bus or trolley.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Casual Seafood Restaurants Near FL Grande

Our local expert is away on her own trip right now but I can tell you that one of her favorites is in walking distance of your hotel. Bimini Boatyard is in the shopping center just west of your hotel. It is located on a canal though, not the intra coastal or ocean. 15th ST. Fisheries has a great location for watching boats but it hasn%26#39;t been getting great reviews since the ownership changed. For a lunch you could try the Pelican Bar across the bridge from you at the Hyatt. Also great for cocktails and watching the sunset. Another maybe is the Quarterdeck. Fun gliders to sit on and gaze at the beach while sipping your drink of choice. Bubba Gumps also recently opened.

Have a great time, bon voyage!

Casual Seafood Restaurants Near FL Grande

Thanks for the info. Can you tell me where Quarterdecks is located and how far it would be from my hotel (The FLL Grande)?

    Thanks!!!

The Aruba located at the end of Commercial Blvd in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is an excellent restaurant with an outstanding menu and a very friendly staff. I%26#39;ve been to FLL many times and this is a restaurant that I never get tired of eating at.

Trust me, you will love it too!

Quarterdeck is located on the corner of A1A and E. Las Olas. It is around 2 miles from your hotel.

    Here is a link:

    http://www.quarterdeckrestaurant.com

I%26#39;M BAAACK! Many good suggestions from one and all- although Aruba is quite a distance north of where you are staying. I would endorse Quarterdeck completely and add to it the Southport Raw Bar right near it- both casual locals favorites. On the same street ( Cordova Rd- turn north ( right ) at the traffic light at Embassy Suites) - you will also find Kelly%26#39;s Landing , another local favorite( a tiny place in thestrip mall across from Winn Dixie. However, it specializes in ';New England '; style dishes- lots of clams , scrod etc- all delish , but not Florida style. I do like Bimini Boatyard, but maybe not really as casual or inexpensive as you would lwant.. A new spot I haven%26#39;t tried is RJ Gators in the Harbor Shops behind Embassy Suites- a few doors up from Publix- just opened , menu posted before opening looked good- just haven%26#39;t gotten there yet.

The place I was really thinking of was Oasis Cafe. I got it mixed up with Quarterdeck. Oasis is a little bit closer to you but not much. I couldn%26#39;t find a website for it but there are reviews for it here on trip advisor.

Pat- there is an additional Quarterdeck location off 17th St. at Cordova Rd ( near Embassy Suites-) which I think would be closer for the folks staying at Ft. Lauderdale Grande than the Oasis( but I like it too). I think you are thinking of the other Quarterdeck location on Las Olas just west of A1A , which would be further for them than Oasis.

I swear I used to be able to find a menu post for Oasis, but at the moment I can%26#39;t- I%26#39;ll keep looking though- it%26#39;s in a strange location- I%26#39;ll have to bookmark it next time I am able to find it. I think it is owned by a ';restaurant group'; and they certainly haven%26#39;t done a good job of making their menus easy to find.

Ok- here%26#39;s a rather long link- if it won%26#39;t work with TA limitations I%26#39;ll turn it into a tiny URL. I%26#39;m also not sure it is completely up to date- but pretty close:

    www.restaurantrow.com/ShowPics.cfm鈥?/a>

Thanks for all of your great input. Now the hard part...I have to pick a place.

If you had to pick a place for fun atmosphere, people and boat watching as opposed to best food...which would it be?

Thanks again for ALL of your help.

Well, I%26#39;ll add twomore to the mix, as I don%26#39;t think it was mentioned. You would hop on the Water Taxi $11 pp for an all day pass and go north- stopping at the Bahia Cabana- a really casual Key West style bar/grill that usually has some sort of music at night and attracts many locals too- I can personally vouch for their Rum Runners and conch fritters- very rustic, but I like it- OR- you can walk

across the bridge from your hotel and go next door to the Hyatt Pier 66 and go to their Marina - on the second floor is the Pelican Bar- the drinks are good- food not as good and somewhat overpriced, but it is right on the Intracoastal Waterway and is one of the few bars in town that faces west over the canal, so you can watch sunset. You will not only see boats up and down the canal -and some fantasic yachts and sailboats docked there- but if you are fortunate, you will be able to see some ships at the Port and watch one or more pull out. Just don%26#39;t expect great food- paper plates- I remember having a decent fish sandwich there- or just have cocktails and move on. Now that I think of it , the bar at Bahia Caban faces west as well, so theer is probably a sunset display theer as well- I guess I have been too rum runnered up to notice.

Your own hotel has waterside bars /restaurants as well as one out by the pool- but most folks don%26#39;t like the food or the prices , so I would venture out!

Actually I read your original question so fast I glossed over the ';on the water '; part- theese may be better choices for that.

    margaritaville

    Hi

Is Jimmy Buffetts margaritaville located in Universal city walk and would it be advisable to book in advance.

    Thanks

    margaritaville

Yes, it%26#39;s at CityWalk, but I%26#39;ll leave the recommendations to someone who%26#39;s actually eaten there.

    margaritaville

I don%26#39;t know if you can book in advance. It is a great place, lots of fun. Wait time depends on when you go. We usually hit it right around 11:00am or around 4:00pm and have only waited a few minutes. It does take awhile to get your food.

I have sat outside on the deck and inside. I prefer the inside because it is louder and people sing, the volcano explodes and the giant Margarita fills up and people yell and cheer.

My two favs are the coconut shrimp and the cheeseburger.

We have only been for lunch a couple of times and walked right in. In the evening that could all change. Great conch fritters.

I do not think they give reservations.

    www.margaritaville.com will have more information.

It is an awsome place and pretty good food. Good conch fritters and cheeseburgers. If you do have to wait, no worries, they have TONS and I mean TONS of large adirondack chairs and rocking chairs to sit in and enjoy a margarita. They also have a ';beach'; next to the citywalk ';lagoon'; where amoung other things... you can put your tows in the sand and have a waitress bring you a drink or appetizer while you wait.

Tons of jimmy music and a nice store to browse through. Your wait will be minimal with all of that to keep you busy!

Hotel advice - Trianon at Bonita Springs or similar ?

Write-ups for this hotel on tripadvisor seem very good....how do I get the best rate.for July.........go via hotel directly or use a booking agent? If anyone knows of any other good hotels in the area please share.

Hotel advice - Trianon at Bonita Springs or similar ?

The one ya pick is good ~~ Its close to the Promanade as well ~~ Bennigans Bar as well with lots of shoppin ~~ Its loacted right-off US 41 ~~ July is out of season so the price shouldn%26#39;t be all that bad ~~ Friends of ours stayed there last year %26amp; they said it was nice ~~ Other than that ~~ readin the reviews should be fine ~~ (:%26gt;)

Hotel advice - Trianon at Bonita Springs or similar ?

    Hello,

I agree. The Trianon is one of the best in Bonita. Great pool area with out door restaurant/bar looking over a nice pond. Possibly some gators in there too. I ride my bike by it all the time and have seen one or two in there.

For comparable hotels to the Trianon you may have to look south towards Naples. The have plenty of upscale hotels to choose from.

And yes....price will be cheaper in the summer time so enjoy!

Trianon Bonita Bay has a special in the summer called Name Your Own Rate - where you send them an email with the rate you would like to pay and they respond - you can find the link on their RATES PAGE -

What about Sandpiper Cove studios? Is it a decent location/beach?

We have stayed in the sandpiper cove studios. good location. The studios are across the street but there is a stop sign so traffic stops. Neat beach cabana with snacks, drinks. Not the fanciest but for the prices can%26#39;t be beat. The only question is the beach right now.I have read it is narrow on Holiday Isle. From the pictures at the end of the street I would definetly not stay there. At sandpiper it looked a little better. We were scared to risk it and found a 1 br at Maravilla where the beach has been restored. do some searches for yourself to decide about the beach in front of SP.

what about Gulf Terrace (corner of Airport Rd and 98?, I think)

Go to VRBO.com and do a search on ';destin nantucket';. Nantucket Cottages are in a good location in crystal beach. Not upscale by any means, but they are a good bargain and most of the units are pretty cute. Very good prices for the area as well.

Don%26#39;t do Gulf Terrace. They don%26#39;t even have a beach access anywhere. Plus, it is quite loud there with Big Kahuna%26#39;s up and running late into the night.

Obviously you are on a budget, but I think if you looked in Crystal Beach, Miramar Beach and Scenic Hwy 98 you could find something cute. It would probably be a block or so from the beach, but very walkable and a quiet neighborhoods.

Good read, Semco..I%26#39;m definitely on a budget this year. We%26#39;ve got another one on the way, due in September. :)

I do appreciate the ';no beach access'; warning, sounds like I%26#39;ll need to find another option.

Also, I am seeing some people beginning to run specials. I saw 250 a week discount on one house.. let me find it..

    www.vrbo.com/97080

This is an examplle of a cottage in Crystal Beach. But, there are a lot of them out there, so people may be willing to negotiate.

Resort Quest is adverstising a 15% discount on their website for 3 nights or more on selected properties.

The Sundestin has one bedrooms right on the beach with an indoor and outdoor pool. They are on resortquest and VRBO.

  • Marco in November

Had planned to be on Marco the end of Sept/first of Oct for our 20th anniversary. My boss just killed those plans. Now we%26#39;re looking at the first week in November. We%26#39;ve never been there in Nov and are wondering about the weather. According to National Weather Service, average temps are highs of upper 70%26#39;s drops to mid 60%26#39;s at night. Is that about right? With the breeze from the water, is it still warm enough to hit the beach and stay there all day? Any info would be appreciated.

    Marco in November

Frankly, I think your boss did you a favor. Waiting another month at that time of year will allow the tropics to settle down and improve the weather forecast for your stay. However, I think the NWS is off in its temperature ranges. You can easily expect highs in the 80s with high humidity during the day. The temps should drop down into the mid 70s in the evenings, and the humidity should drop to something more tolerable than ';flopsweat';. Island breezes should help at night, too.

It will be hot enough for the beach and the pool. If you stay all day, you%26#39;ll get an amazing tan or a terrific sunburn, so bring lots of sunscreen and a hat.

Happy 20th Anniversary, Turnerbudd! My husband and I will celebrate 15 at the end of October.

    Marco in November

    Hi turnerbudd -

I agree with lzrandall - November is one of my favorite months. As far as the beach in November - when I used to vacation here, I came in November and December and could not wait to hit the water - always ended up with a sunburn as the breeze is nice and you don%26#39;t realize how strong the sun is down here even at that time of year -- use LOTS of sunscreen. Have fun

I especially like the shot with the padlock in the foreground.

Advice on Olde Marco Inn and Suites

I just booked a weekend get-away here online. The website looked great, the private boat sounds great, but the reviews I%26#39;ve read look awful! Does anyone have any first hand experience with the Inn? I%26#39;m looking at The Boathouse Motel as a back up option; would also appreciate an opinion/comparison. I need to make a decision quick - any help is good!

Advice on Olde Marco Inn and Suites

The Boat House Motel is small - right on the water but more of a motel.

Olde Marco is a condo hotel (water views but not on the water) and the rooms were built and furnished just a few years ago - although the main building that has the restaurant and pool is an old historic building, the accommodations are recent

you can compare photos of both online

  • Post-Hurricane Pensacola

My family and I are planning a trip from Indiana to Pensacola Beach. I never drive anywhere but the country roads around home, so I am freaking out!! Especially when the MapQuest directions told me to take SR 399 and Fort Pickens Road to get to my final destination, yet several sites I have been on report those roads are closed indefinitely due to the hurricanes. Are there easy, well-posted detours? Should I find another route? Help, please!

    Post-Hurricane Pensacola

Relax. The only part of 399 that is closed is actually on the island itself. The closed parts include:

The far east part of the island connecting Pensacola Beach to Navarre Beach.

The far west part of the island going out to Fort Pickens. If you%26#39;re staying on Fort Pickens Road, this will not affect you in any way. You simply cannot drive to the far end of the island to see the Fort.

You will be picking up 399 from Highway 98 in Gulf Breeze. You%26#39;ll go over a short bridge, pay your $1 toll and you%26#39;re there!

No worries...just relax and enjoy yourself!!

    Post-Hurricane Pensacola

    Ditto,

The only closed road on Ft. Pickens road leads to the Gulf of Mexico, so you would not be able to use this road to get anwhere else even if it was open :-)

Pensacola is fine, just lots of work expanding the interstate, but that%26#39;s not hurricane related.

can i fit in all four disney parks and seaworld in fourdays?

wanted to go try to go to all four disney parks and sqeeze in seawolrd one day. like maybe just an example : Monday morning seaworld , monday evening a smaller disney, then tuesday morning a smaller disney and then go back to seaworld for the night shows. then the other two days for the big disneys. is this possible? anyone else got any suggestions? mon-thurs will be there . in june

can i fit in all four disney parks and seaworld in fourdays?

    Yes, this i s doable!

But make sure you WANT to do that! It w i l l be very hard and you will be very tiered!

I麓ve done all 4 Disney Parks in ONE day (well of course only the main attractions) with a v e r y high walking speed and a well planned strategie w h e r e to use fast pass and where to go first...

Believe me (I麓ve done that 3 times with first timers who wanted to see Disney in one day) that THIS is really really hard... Even for disneyholics...

can i fit in all four disney parks and seaworld in fourdays?

I think it%26#39;s too much in too short a time, and you will be wasting money on your disney tickets this way (ie buying 4 tickets but only using them for half days). If you want to got to Seaworld that bad, I%26#39;d just buy a 3 day disney pass, or buy a week or longer and pay extra for the no-expiration feature and use them on your next trip.

All that tooing and froing from Disney to seaworld will eat up the days.

An efficient way to do 2 parks in one day is to have hopper tickets, or hopper + tickets. That way you can do the morning at AK (we got there before opening and were finished by noon) followed by an afternoon at another park (say MK or MGM) or a water park (BB is next door).

But these tickets are more expensive than a reg base ticket.

Yes it is doable if you want to be rushing around for 4 days like a chicken with it%26#39;s head cut off trying to see everything at the parks, I don%26#39;t see how thats a vacation.

If you get up early- you could do Animal Kingdom in a half/day, then over to SeaWorld.

Like wise, the day you want to do SeaWorld first, try hitting Epcot that afternoon.

Save Magic Kingdom %26amp; MGM Studios for the full days.

For all four days, get to all the parks early before the crowds really swell.

I would say save a full day for Epcot, not for MGM. We couldn%26#39;t find enough to do at MGM for a full day.

I would go to AK in the morning ( animals are more active )and then around 1or 2pm go to MGM and stay for Fantasmic. You%26#39;ll be using 2 of your ticket days but you%26#39;ll also get 2 parks done. Go to Seaworld and stay the whole day and evening. It will save alot of time running back and forth. Go to Mk for the next day and Epcot on the next day.

We usually only take a half day at MGM anyway. If you buy 4 day base ticket and use 2 of the days in one it is still way cheaper than buying a 3 day base with hopper.

Do SeaWorld in a whole day instead of splitting it across two days - save on the travel time.

Much of this depends upon how crowded the parks are and how long you will wait in a line for an attraction. During off seasons we can, and do the parks and Sea World in four days. Do not go back and forth between Sea World and Disney World. You waste too much time in the traveling. Just go to Sea World and spend the day. I would also do AK in the morning and MGM in the afternoon. If you do not have to stand in long lines there is really not enough to keep you busy in either of these parks for a complete day. Get a fast pass for Mount Everest at AK and a fast pass for Tower of Terror if there are any left at MGM. Then spend your remaining two days at the Magic Kingdom and Epcot. At Epcot grab a fast pass for Soarin%26#39; (my all time favorite Disney attraction), and then try for a fast pass on Test Track. At Magic Kingdom my favorite attraction is the Pirates, but most people go for a fast pass for Space Mountain.

We did this schedule the first part of December with our daughter and her two toddler children. It was totally exhausting, and it took us three days to recover, but we saw all the things we wanted to see and had time for pictures with Mickey and a Mermaid kiss. Also, we left the parks no later than 6:00 pm, and you will be able to stay much longer.

I think its definately doable! no prob!

    Monday- Seaworld the whole day

Tuesday-Magic Kingdom whole day, make sure u check schedule for Spectro and Wishes

    Wed- Epcot whole day

Thurs-Morning Animal Kingdom then take bus over to MGM for the rest of the day/night and end with Fantasmik!

Depending when you go, just make sure you get the fast passes when necessary and make sure you know what you want to ride. Hope that helped, good luck and have a great trip!!!

Half days here and there seem slightly pointless to me and as people have mentioned very time consuming.

    Seaworld - 1 day

Ak - opening till lunch ( animals go in the afternoon due to the heat and there is no evening show to really worry about) Then MGM the rest of the day and fantasmic.

    M.K - 1 Day

    Epcot - 1 day

obviously do them in the order that is more preferable to you, but i certainly would not do half days at seaworld twice, this park only really needs one full day.

    Orlando to Daytona

Driving from Orlando to Daytona is no more than an hour or so right?????

    Orlando to Daytona

Actually should be less .. but if you mean Daytona Beach, then that%26#39;s a tad further.

    Orlando to Daytona

Depends on the time of day you are driving. Try to avoid the Orlando ';rush hour'; traffic on weekdays, and you should get there in a little over an hour. It%26#39;s about 70 miles to the beach itself; about 65 miles to the Speedway area.

Stating from Orlando to Daytona is very broad for example we travel reguarly from I Drive to Daytona beach usually just after morning rush and we reach beach in just over the hour.

we find this as easy a drive as you can get

Now if you are north of I D rive it could take even less time

We do that drive every year from MCO and it is a good drive, Usually takes about 1 hr. and 15 minutes. Pull up Mapquest and it gives 2-3 different ways to go. The only tricky part until you get used to it is immediately after you leave the terminal, those exits pop out of nowhere LOL. We love Daytona and always stay there then drive over to Orlando on the days we want to do Disney. Have a safe trip.

Do the mid range Walt Disney World hotels ever go on sale

Oct. is a great time to go, it is ';Value Season'; so rates are low. I have in the past gotten Package Deals but they may not be announced for a few months yet for the fall. Port Orleans Riverside is voted #1 by alot of people on this forum. There are some rooms that have an extra trundle bed, that can come in handy if the kids need a little time apart. I have stayed at all the Moderate Resorts and have enjoyed them all. I do think it%26#39;s worth the extra $. There are lots of extas compared to the Value Resorts.

Try dreamsunlimitedtravel.com for a free quote. I have used them many times with great results. Even after you book, they will keep looking for a Better Deal for you.

If you wanted to change the month, Aug 26 - Sept 22 is the Free Dinning Deal. You can read all about that at allearsnet.com or the disney sites. Hope this is of some help

Do the mid range Walt Disney World hotels ever go on sale

Thankyou so much for that info..it%26#39;s our first time and I will check out that site..Thanks again

October is value season, so the chances that they have a room discount then are pretty slim. If you have AAA, call them, as they do have small discounts. Also, while you may not find a room discount, keep an eye out for free dining...they are runnung that every once in a while. Also, if you book through Disney itself, and they do come out with a discount or promo later, they will honor it on your reservation...all you need to do is call. Have a great time!

Hate to inform you all of this, but October is NOT value season at the Disney hotels anymore.

Value season runs out on Oct. 3rd and the rest of the month through the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday is considered ';regular'; season and is not the lowest rates.

Rates for most of the moderate resorts at Disney during October run $165 per night plus tax for a standard room, and $185 per night for a water-view room.

For a recommendation of a moderate, I love Port Orleans Riverside. Lots of amenities and a great main pool area. You can also ';pool hop'; over to the resort next door called French Quarter and use their ';sea serpent'; pool.

Here%26#39;s a list of the dates for each cost category:

    Value Season: 1/1-2/14, 8/5-10/3, 11/25-12/19

    Regular Season: 4/15-5/23, 10/4-11/24

    Summer Season: 5/24-8/4

    Peak Season: 2/15-4/14

    Holiday Season: 12/20 - 12/31

Thanks for the up-date kat. Is my understanding of this still correct, as long as you Check-in by the 3rd of Oct. you will get the value rate for you entire length of stay ?

    Partypa,

That%26#39;s the way it ';USED'; to work, but nowadays, I%26#39;m not sure. They seem to be getting more ';greedy'; on things like that.

I think the reason the free dining plan was cut short this year by a week was because you could literally be using it into October if you booked on the final day, etc. They shortened the free dining by a full week on both ends this year. This might be a sign that it won%26#39;t be lasting too many more years, but who knows.

Disney reported good earnings this past week, which means they are making more money and the ';demand'; for their services is increasing. Deals such as free dining tend to only be done during times of low demand.

I guess everyone needs to keep tuned to Bloomberg and wait for a downturn in their business cycle lol.

Thanks again..we might leave alittle earlier and get a few days of value season.............
